A few years ago, I rememeber that he had articles in all of the major newspapers across the country, sort of as a casting call.

I have a question. Living in Vegas, I might go to the World Magic Seminar and compete. However, I mainly do close-up magic. Is this competition close-up or platform?
Thanks, Shane Wiker |

As the winner of the "2003 Lance Burton Award" I can tell you that your next chance will be at the World Magic Seminar in Las Vegas on February 20-23 at The Orleans Hotel and Casino. This was a great experience for me and has helped me both personally and professionally. They alternate years as far as Stage and Close-up go. The 2005 Competition will be STAGE.

There will be both a teen stage and a teen close-up competition at the WMS next February at the Orleans. A competitor may enter one or both of the contests. Additional information can be found on the WMS website - http://www.worldmagicseminar.com . Those interested in entering the contests should submit a tape to me for review prior to January 28. The earlier the better. My address and email address are on the website and in the magazine ads. Lance sponsors the teen contests and presents the awards to the winners. Lance also sponsors the teen weekend which is held immediately before the WMS beginning Friday evening and ending after the teen luncheon with Lance and friends on Sunday. Jeff McBride and Eugene Burger facilitate the teen weekend.
Please let me know if any of you have any additional questions. |

It would be nice if you at least included some of the routines that you intend to use in the competition. If you are accepted in the contest, you should provide your final repertoire to us before the actual contest so that we can avoid putting acts together that are performing the same effects. Yes, you may perform illusions. Past contestants have done such illusions as the Selbit Sawing, Metamorphisis, the Doll House, and a production of a Tiger. This does not have to be a professionally done tape. A hand held cam tape is sufficient. Bill |
