Hi Jim,
Can you clear up something for me? Last year I bought a thing called Inviso-Torch (I'm not sure of the exact spelling) from Sean Taylor, the Australian magician and dealer, during his lecture tour here in the UK. I'm sure he said they were invented and made by a friend of his in Oz. Well, basically it was a load of garbage as the jet was made of plastic and melted the very first time I used it!! Sean said that I had held the flame on for too long - but I only held it on for 2-3secs. Anyway, it was now unworkable and, to be fair, Sean gave me my money back. The basic idea of this gimmick was wonderful but the manufacture was c**p. Was this an Aussie original or a rip off of yours or what? And where does Inferno fit into all this? Thanks for any insight you can give us to clear this all up.
Warmest regards

I am almost embarrassed to answer this. Inviso Torch is mine. I invented it in 1997 after watching Chappy Brazil perform his Dragon Fire, who probably got his version from John Kennedy's "Flamethrower match."
I am sorry to hear that it melted. I have heard this many times. The striker is plastic. I only suspect that by the time you realized that it was melting, it was too late. I would have to agree with Sean. If you would like to try again I can give you a special deal. The retail price of those should be only $29.95. I have Phoenix out; it still has the same plastic striker, and with care it will last. I still have the original. Just PM. Jim

Jim,
I have worn out 3 flints on the one I got from you at your Everett lecture last year. The plastic is not a problem. A friend of mine was using one, and he had to pat out the flame under his jacket every time he used it! It is because he was just allowing the "business end" to pendulum vanish as opposed to the "snapping back." That may be same the reason for the melting striker? I use it to get attention when performing strolling magic at renaissance faires. Works great! Telemus Wizardslaire.com |

I have had my Inviso-Torch for several years. The only problem I have had with mine is that last year, the tubing broke away from the gas tank. I miss having this effect...I might have to pick up the Phoenix at some point. But, I LOVED the Inviso-Torch!!!

Telemus, yeah it is pretty important to let it go while the tubing is stretched. I am glad you enjoy it.
Knightmagic, why don't you send it to me at my store and I will recondition it? http://www.whiterabbitmagic.com

I love this effect, Mr. Pace, but the only problem is that, I've heard it breaks too easily. I've also heard the same about the Phoenix. This makes me a little hesitant to buy one.
I would like to buy the Phoenix, and if you could convince me to buy one, that would be great, or if you could tell me when you would be coming out with an improved version that would be great also. I would like to mention that I am very impressed with your work. I especially love Alien Autopsy, it's my favourite card routine. |

Monkey, I don't know where you are hearing that it breaks too easily, but in my experience both the Inviso-torch and Phoenix just work fine.
And in the few cases I have heard where it did fail/break, Jim has made it right. I think you may be hearing from people who don't actually own or use one. But in my experience, and among all of those I know who have one and use it regularly, I hear nothing but praise. If you already do fire, the Phoenix is a great addition. If you are thinking of doing fire, it's one of the best, least expensive fire gimmicks going, (In My Humble Opinion..) BroDavid
