Hi all,
During your CMH routine, when the 2 bands appear to become one, what do you do with the 2nd band? Drop it to the floor? Drop it in your pocket? Toss it far away? Drop something else to justify secretly picking it up? My question arises from the fact that some people DO look for that 2nd band. And I have been caught where they see it on the floor, as I walk away. How many of you have a similar experience, and how do you get around it? Should I drop/toss it further from the spectators? Or should I not worry about it, by claiming it wasn't mine? Mr. Harlan? Are you there?

Okay, the phase of my CMH routine that I'm referring to may not in fact be called Crazy Man's Handcuffs, but from the Dan Harlan video, it IS the final phase of the CMH routine. For the 'few' people that may have seen the video, maybe THEY can help.......
2 rubberbands DO become one.......McFly.

Indyfan is performing my "Crazy Twist Vanish" from the L&L Videos "Magic With Rubberbands" Volume 1.
I've never had anyone look for the second band, but I don't finish with this effect. Instead, I transition into the broken and restored band (I like Joe Rindfleisch's "Pans" from Volume 2) to provide time/distance. I also find that the longer I spend with the convincing display before the vanish, then people are more likely to believe that the band really does vanish. I also do the vanish VERY slowly to re-inforce that it is not merely dropped or snapped away. Now, the technique which I employ when I cannot drop the band (this is not on any video): Immediately following the spectator penetration sequence (that sounds like fun), drop your hand with the band to your side. This is when you would drop the band, but don't. Instead, insert all of your fingers into the band and spread your hand as wide as possible. The band will typically travel to the point where it is stretched across your palm. As you reach for the spectator's band, rub your hidden palm downward behind your leg. This rolls the band silently onto your wrist. Proceed as usual. --Dan Harlan |

Dan, thank you for posting. Magis who loves rubberband effects should get your videos. One of my favorites is The Bandshark.

Thanks, Dan. I appreciate the response. And gkfreed offers a good alternative as well.
Thanks to both!

I do CMH on with the spectator, then put my rubber band onto my left wrist, do the vanish, and show that it has jumped, that ususlly surprises people.

In strolling or table hopping situations I have had no problems just ditching the 2nd rubber band in my side coat pocket. This happens afer the relaxation after 2 penetration phases, when the public thinks the effect is over. I reposition myself between two other spectators so they would be able 'to see the effect from a different prespective'. This gives me more than enough misdirection.
I agree the fusion from 2 to 1 rubber band needs to be done ver very slowly. |
