Hi, I was wondering if anyone can post a review for this set? I did a search and didn't come up with much. Thanks in advance.

I have 2 of the volumes. I think that a good portion of the material is very "real world" usable material.
There is some good card material and some good coin material. Most of the stronger effects utilize gaffs. That counted some of them out for me. Troy Hooser works very well with the tools though and makes it look very natural. I will say this much too, Troy is not afraid to use a finger palm. He will be lecturing in my hometown in a month from now. |

I thought he was so boring. How does he make a living?

If you are buying the set for entertainment, there may be more riveting performances. However, if you want to learn amazing looking coin routines that use only simple sleights, I cannot recommend this set more highly. If you have a shell set or a flipper coin, these dvds are worth twice their price.
Troy also teaches some good card routines and shuffles, but cards do not interest me right now. Troy is not a spastic, in-your-face performer, but a more mellow "look at the magic, not me" type person. I like his style. He is sincere. Much like David Roth or Michael Ammar, Troy is an excellent teacher and covers the routines, moves and psychology very thoroughly. I learned a lot of practical clean-looking, non knuckle-busting magic from these dvds. Not exactly a review, but I hope this information helps. Cheers, Tiki |

I've just watched all 3 of them.......
anyone tried his coin rountines in real world? "hey, what's in your hand!!show me the hands! I think the coin rountines itself is not bad, but you need to have your own good way to clean up urself..........i'll never have the courage to use finger palm like that... |

I have volume 1. I highly recommend it if you are interested in the flipper coin use. His coin magic is visual but as we know, gaffs come in play.
ExTroydinary is a lovely walkaround piece. Troy has a version in his book that leaves you clean. His VCA's with the flipper are well choreographed. He uses the finger palm a lot. The moves are not that hard and you will sure find his work useable in the real world. Plus the video has 2 lovely ladies in it. (especially the one in Troy's left) LOL :stircoffee:

I think Destroyers - The MAgic of Troy Hooser by Joshua Jay is an excellent book. I use A Charming Chinese Challenge all the time.

I second the Destroyers book. Much info there and the CCC is a beautiful close-up piece that plays really well.
Troy may seem boring to others but he is an entertaining magician to me. His magic speaks for himself.

I just saw Troy lecture and absolutely loved it. I can only second what a few others have said, his work speaks for itself. He seems on the surface a very subtle performer but his tricks jump out and grab hold. I'd recommend his stuff to anyone.

Here's an overall review IMHO. The DVDs were professionally produced (no basement tapes here) and the production quality was excellent. Some of the methods for the tricks were more amazing than the actual trick. As far as the presentational skills of Troy, his style isn't my style. He is very relaxed and unrushed, which is a lesson many of us could learn from. He is not very geared toward comedy although there were some funny lines and moments. The tricks were all explained clearly and concisely. I do wish that they had included performances of some of the tricks they only explained (Sponge balls in particular). Overall I would give this set a 7/10. It looses a point for having such a laid back miracle worker and another for having to aquire so many props for the coin work (yes s***l and fli**er coins are used) It gains a point for describing in detail how to use a flipper coin properly (rare but useful magical knowledge) (check out Garrett Thomas's video for more useful flipper info) It also looses a point for splitting up the 3 versions of 3 fly onto different tapes. I really wish the editors would stop making us by 3 tapes just to get the three versions of a particular trick (or type of trick) Put all the coins tricks on one DVD. The tricks were all very deceptive and well routined. Some of the effects are going to need professional presentations though. A worthwile close up performer describes his tricks and methods. Worth the $35 ticket price per tape .... mabey (1 usable trick is worth 10 times that) if you can find the series for $60 or $75 go for it. You might be better off buying the book considering I didn't get much off the video that I didn't get from the book.

I have got all three of them, in my opinion you have to buy a flipper coin and a coin shell. The card routines are good, but not enough to buy the dvd's for it.
If you have a coin shell and flipper coin, the dvd's will be worth it. His perfomance is very good and the explenation is average in my opinion. Zwevie
