I don't have David Forrest's 'X-Deck'.

Over the years 'Magic & its Methods' have seen great changes.

Forrest's X-Deck effect and many similar effects with many variations of showing a selected card with a different back or with a special marking (with or without a different back) can be done:-

1. Using a normal deck (including a borrowed deck).
2. The DECK can be fully examined after the effect.
3. The deck can be instantly reset.
4. The deck can be made ready & set for a different outcome (i.e. with special marking and/or different back etc. etc.) almost instantly.

So simple yet so effective. Imagination will be your only limiting factor.
