Can anyone suggest the best place to order the Johnson Silver expanded half dollar shell?
Also, any suggestions on routines (Books/Videos) |

Pretty much any magic dealer on the internet will sell the Johnson Exp shell. I would deal with the same people you always deal with for magic purchases.

David Neighbors has hundreds of routines that utilizes the shell check out all his lecture notes.
If your looking for a silver expanded shell I suggest Todd Lasson. He can get you an entire matching shell set of any silver coin you want. His work by far surpasses the quality of Johnsons Products.

Yes Todd's work is better but for the normal stuff (half dollar shells, C/S coins) I would not say it "far surpasses the quality". Todd's work is the best because he can do anything you want with any kind of coins you want, and the work is superb. |

I agree that Todd is better, though saying "far surpasses" infers that Johnson stuff is low quality, which it is not.

How does the Sasco Shell compare to the Johnson or Lassen shells?

Keep in mind that the shell is cut and heated to expand it. Lower quality shells can be out of round, and have "bubble tops"
so they are not all the way flat. The exception is the english penny that all seem to bubble slightly due to the type of metal, regardless of how carfully they are made. Johnson does pretty well with those but, some folks do better. I have some Sterling and sasco coins in my drawer at home. They are not that bad and the specs usualy won't notice. Save your money and get Johnson's or have them made.

Do any of you have problems with the rim of the shell rusting? I noticed this back when I was demo-ing the things in the magic store here in Hawaii, where just about everything metal rusts before you can use it.
I would figure, however, that if you're palming the shell with any regularity, you're going to have the same problem. The only solution I can think of is pure silver shells, which are fine for coins out of circulation, but are a bit odd if you're trying to ring in a quarter shell. Of course, this is just for those of you who actually use shells. Sissies.

No they will not rust unless left with damp iron or steel.

You can get that at any magic dealer but i would definitly recomend getting Hopping Half rather than just an expanded shell. its a little more expensive but you also get a sun in moon coin and an expanded english penny shell. If you want more info on the trick itself just PM me!

I live in Florida and yes a copper penny will tarnish in a few days. So I let it! I think it makes the coins look more normal than a nice shinny one.
What do you folks think? Are the specs more impressed with coins that look "new" Paul |

Bobo contains the Albert Goshman Sun and Moon routine, which is great and (a rarity in coin magic) has a theme. The plot is based on having the sun set in one spot (in this case, one hand) and rise in the other. Jerry |
