I said it once and I'll say it again, a lot of things are held back from you magicians so that the more advanced one’s can keep their status as being the best at whatever they do. You probably would be better then them within a year if you just knew certain things that they’ve learned. This is why they wanted to keep me as a secret.
J. Wess, even though I feel that you did pay a lot for that book and you did, you have to realize that when you're trying to achieve a goal of expertise and you feel that you need a particular book/video, you have to buy it for whatever price they're selling it for. I know what I'm talking about because I did the same as you did for certain books that I have in my gambling collection and after I had to have it, I just put it to the side after I bought it. If you re-read my post on me being broke in Vegas with Steve Forte just so that I could buy gambling books you would understand my meaning. You just bought a book that is basically out of print so the price will naturally be higher then it was when first put out. Understand your conditions, the time in which you bought it and the price is about right. Craig, Kukram and Scafidi are correct in their statements I would just like to add why I think that Darwin's Annotated is much better. Darwin has more books on magic and gambling then any known magician alive and I believe this to be true because what I saw at his house. I've seen his library and there were about 12 boxes full of books that he didn't get to put on his shelves at the time that I was there which were already humongous. I thought Steve Forte had a gambling collection until I saw Darwin's and Darwin makes Steve's huge collection look like toys are us, I guess the reason is that Darwin's collection includes magic books too. When Darwin writes he has an unlimited amount of information at his disposal that he can use. This is why his version seems to be more appealing then Dai’s and besides that Darwin is a great writer and he has met a lot of the well known gaffed gambling technicians in the country; some of the names which are in the Annotated. What does this tell you if Steve Forte has all of Darwin’s books on his shelf? Do the same. Sincerely Doc P.S. J. I would like to state that your techniques of the muck are already out but your handling of them are done very well. One of them I've never seen before. Good work! |

Paul how are you doing, I hope all is well with you and your family.
I'm still haunting the Café now and then. Hey I'm interested in that Charlie Miller Gin game ruse that you previously spoke about somewhere before. I need to learn it because I'm about to learn how to cheat at Gin Rummy. I don't know if you want to let it out to me but hey like I used to tell my students, you've got to ask anyway. Still a Wanna-Be-Student Doc P.S. Hey Scafidi I hope all is well with you and your family too. |

Not sure if there is any truth to this or not, but supposedly there's a copy of Revelations with Ed Marlo's notes on what Vernon added. Maybe it's urban
legend. |

Hi Doc,
my folks are good, thank you for asking. Hope you and yours are doing well too. Gin Rummy is my favorite game to play, but I don't know a lot of folks who play it. Everybody around here just wants to play Euchre. Gin'd be a good game to bet on, I'd think, as you'd be betting 1 on 1 with someone. I have tried to think of ways to cheat at it, out of intellectual curiosity of course, and I haven't come up with much, other than using a short deck, or peeking the bottom card, or doing the thing Scarne once mentioned about peeking the 2nd card on the stock. Problem is all those ideas aren't guarantees of winning in any single game, only in the long run. Marked cards would sure work great in this game. Anyway I love that game. Tom G, I heard of that same thing you're mentioning too. Maybe Cameron Roat will know about it, he knows all about every magic book.

From what I've heard (I know I read it somewhere), a man named Chuck Stanfield bought a copy of Revelations and asked Ed Marlo to write a few comments. Marlo did this, and then Chuck took the book to Vernon, who made comments regarding Marlo's comments. Chuck died and the library was passed on to Jay Marshall. Much of it was sold, however, so that copy of Revelations is still "at large."

Is that what all those pencil scribblings were ? ***, I should never have rubbed 'em out to clean the book up!
