Greetings Members-
Would appreciate any info on Paul Osborne? For years I have read of his illusion plans as well as fabulous books -I am even building 2 of his illusions as we speak , having purchased his plans, which I've altered slightly! What is Paul's History or background? Anybody know? Is he still alive? A man with this much material out in the magic world and I personally don't know too much about him! Love any info or stories about Paul? There is not a lot on the Web. It is mainly about his writings, plans etc. Thanks for any info to fill in the gaps! Cheers-Brent |

Paul Osborne is very much alive and is still a creative force in magic. Like anyone he has his suporters and detractors. I have had the pleasure of doing some business with him in the past (as builder of the DW Deluxe Chopper) and found him to be articulate, driven and focused. On some other threads you will find some spitting matches going on where Paul is involved. Live long enough it happens to anyone.
His Web site can be found here. http://hamiltonholtinc.site.yahoo.net/ He has been involved in the construction of effects of all shapes and sizes for many, many theme parks, illusionists, etc. Just be careful of your measurements on Osborne plans. They should be considered guidelines ONLY!

The same website is also here: http://www.osborneillusionsystems.com/
BTW, in some of Paul's books and in some magic magazine interviews, he has given quite a bit of biographical information on himself. - Donald

His evolution and revolution of the magic box book has a great deal on himself.

I had the privilege of working for Paul for three seasons of park shows in his heyday in the late 80's. He was a GREAT boss. Somewhat hands off (I loved that) and working for him gave me the opportunity to work with almost 40 stage illusions either as a performer or in some cases as a repairman or both. We used some amazing props (David Mendoza's Sawing a woman in Thirds) and some not so (Abbot's Head Chopper) and everything in between!
He took late night phone calls (some very late night), offered fatherly advice during cast squabbles and took the time to critique shows with positive helpfull criticism when needed. There were times that he could have blown his top, but didn't. I can't say enough nice things about him personally. His Illusion plans are the most complete in the business and very often, the measuments are taken directly off of illusions he owns for his park shows. I wish that the magic part of his park show empire had not practically died out. I'd love to train new park show magicians and tell them some of the ups and downs that I learnd doing almost 8,000 (yes eight THOUSAND) shows for him in three years. Michael Mosher |

Can't imagine why anyone would be down on Paul.
I too worked for him in the 80's for three seasons, and my Genii column came because of him. One of the good ones, and great ones too. |
