Hi all - I've done a modest search and spent hours trudging through the boards trying to look for very strong and entertaining stage mentalism pieces.
It seems everyone is into close-up mentalism these days. I'm interested to hear about the kind of things like 'casino royale'. Marc Spelmann has his dvd's released soon so I'm guessing that will trigger of few 'stage' posts. What rocks in your stage act??????? Matt

I recently saw Luke Jermay's show and enjoyed it and he did his opening with a tossed out deck. I didn't think that wuld be a good impression for a mentalist, starting out with cards, however it really worked for him as it was fast paced and lively. I enjoyed it at least.
Kind thoughts, Kennedy In my act I use PK touches, Rick Maue's Demon Ring, Cassidy's Name and place routine, John Riggs' Enigma Of The Iron Mask with Osterlind's Stainless Steal Blindfold for a psychometry routine, some nail writing and a tought of card prediction. I occasionally now use some ideas from Chuck Hickock's book Mentalism Incorporated, like his three way mirale (i think it is called) and Banachek's image Duplication. Hope this helps a little, Kind thoughts, Kennedy

You might enjoy Abbott's re-release of Bob Mason's Predicta-total. This effect is suitable for stage, platform and living rooms. It is a fooler AND easy to do. (also, it hasn't been available for several years, so now it's "new" again!)

For stage work, Banachek's Drawing duplication along with his Q&A routine works wonders. The Q & A seems like a miracle. I suggest you try it. It is on the Psi-Series DVD set.

I think Mr Osterlind's jumbo card calling just screams to be on a large stage.

Hi ya, Matt, nice to meet you ! I'm sitting here reading all of the answers you are recieving from everyone and it's so nice to have resources like this (bless you all). But what I can't understand for the life of me is they are telling Matt to do "so and so's" routine. If you are a beginner, there is no such thing as a fast fix in Mentalism that will last.
Take a few good books like the 13 Steps or Annemans Practical Mental Effects and familiarize yourself with the basics of good mentalism, try this, try that and find out what is good for Matt. It won't be an over night thing, it will take years, but if you are a serious student, that won't matter to you. Forget about this guys routine and that guys routine, it's good for them and they are making their bucks on it. Think about what is best for Matt's personality and presentation style. Dunninger, Kreskin, Fogel and the rest of them didn't get famous by doing other guys routines. Get to know the basics and develope your own routines. Take something like a billet routine, book tests, blindfold etc. that stuff dosen't "belong" to anyone and come up with your own stuff. It will make you a better read Mentalist and perhaps later, you can look at the other guys stuff and improve it due to your experience and developed imagination. Remember, to develope an imagination to write up these routines means experiment, practice, experiment and performance. I've taken something and had to perform with it 15 or 20 times before I was happy and comfortable with it. On the other hand, if a fast fix is what your looking for without any thought or worry about if it's right for you...then someone else's routine should do. Matt, don't look for the quick fix by doing somebody else's stuff...be your own Mentalist. ~Rick~ PS> If you did get to the "top" doing other peoples material, you have to ask yourself..."did I get me here or did so and so's routine get me here" ? ~R.~ |

Kennedy, how could you forget Sneak Thief??? that's one of my favourites although Im also liking and getting used to Spelmanns version, "Thief in the Dark". that's a great variation on it.
There have been some great suggestions so far though Cheers, TM |

Slapped on the wrist for that one mate.
I think the reason I didn't mention it wa sbecause I don't want anyone else doign it..its rubbish, please do not consider using it under any circumstances and Spellman's contributions add nothing extra...so don't use them Best, Kennedy
