A friend of mine showed me the website and got me into the convention a few years ago. It's really cool. It's only cards, but there are many Marlo students and professionals that are members. It's very cool.

Is it worth the 20$?

It's a very good investment. There are many very knowledgeable cardmen there. There's a video download section with some GREAT stuff as well as a magic forum with downloadable tricks. They have a "Problem Posed" periodically with prizes for the best solution. You can read all the past problems and solutions. It's only $20. That's how much a set of lecture notes costs...

Samuel,
To answer your question, no it is not worth $20. It is worth a hell of a lot more. What makes it an awesome site are the members. It is a paid site, and to join you must have a current member of the site sponsor you. It is not all card magic, but primarily cards. I encourage you, if you are a serious student of the work, to find a member to sponsor you to join. The convention every year is one of the best around. It has been compared to the early days of Fechter's. Best, Trini Montes

Well Jimmy Cards is a member so that is good enough for me. I think you need Two people to second you.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Well, I don't know two people on TSD, so that'll be the biggest problem for me...

To me, the most valuable thing about TSD is the archives. When I first joined I searched for all the old posts by some of the "names" on the board. Picking up the insights they've sprinkled through-out previous posts is worth the price of admission.

Silly question, but, will anyone current member of TSD sponsor me ?
I would really love to join TSD because my primary magic interest is in the pasteboards. |

I, too, need a member to sponsor me!???

I always heard you actually had to know the person you sponsored. If that's true, asking someone on here to sponsor you is not the way to go unless you know them.

Dumb question. They don't list the members on the site so how do you know if anyone you know is a member? Are you just out of luck until two people happen to mention to you that they are members of the site? I guess I could ask everyone I know but that could get a little tiring.

If that's true then its a shame but a good idea though.
I don't know any magicians who are members 'personally' I like the idea of a fee.I am a member of another forum that has a fee and it definitely has been a good thing. It stops the boards having posts by the curious who arnt really interested and will post stupid questions. (Having said that I started a topic on the difference between bikes and tallys. But to be fair I had only just recently switched to tallys so it was a serious question )

The sponsorship is in place to weed out those that are not serious about the art from those that are. Its not a matter of skill, but a matter of attitude. How many of you have heard of the FFFF covention? As many of you know, it is hard to get in without an invite. You must get two people to sponsor you to even be placed on the waiting list. True about the fact that there is no list of members of TSD, but then again, where is the list of those that go to Fechter's?
And yes its not as easy as asking someone here to sponsor you. Sorry. All in all, its a GREAT site. Best, Trini Montes
