Common Scents
http://www.alakazam.co.uk/acatalog/Hot_List_1.html#a1433 £8.99 (GBP) Difficulty = easy to do) They say... A packet of cards is shown - each bears a picture of a perfume bottle. All of them are different and the backs of the cards are blank to preclude them being marked. The cards are mixed and a lady (e.g. Emily Howard?!) chooses one whilst the performer’s head is turned. She rubs the card on her wrist and then Places it out of sight. The performer turns back towards the lady and by delicately smelling her wrist identifies the scent she chose! The cards may be thoroughly examined and no one will find (or sniff!) a thing. The effect may be immediately repeated with a different selection. As well as the beautifully produced cards, the instant reset and strong emotional hook makes this effect ideal for the walk-around or restaurant performer. I say... Well for those of you who are more "read" in magic than I (that's most of you I dare say!) this will seem like a variation on a sound, tried and true method. In fact Peter Nardi says as much. He developed it not knowing others had come up with similar workings previously. The addition of clearly unmarked cards and the routines logical concept is what really makes it different. It is dead easy to do and very natural in its working. The routine is simple to remember and it is a mystifying "quick-hit" trick when handled with charm and ease. I know Peter has personally used it for years as one of his "ready to go" pocket wonders. Overall... Well I think Alakazam has done it again with a simple, witty and inexpensive trick that defys easy catagorizing. It's a charming keeper, one you can do with confidence. If you work it out, it is only £1.29 per (custom printed) card and you gets the routine as a "free" bonus! Good value for money. Rating... 9/10
