Hi All,
I am considering adding face painting to my "super deluxe" party package. This will involve an additional premium to the booker as my wife will be doing the face painting. She has worked at a creche for a few years now and does quite a lot of face painting there. (the creche is in a holiday park) I am therefore asking is anyone knows of reputable suppliers of face paints, etc... where I can get the best deal of course! I gather Snazaroo is the market leader and it is their products I am after. An internet search has brought up a few possibilities but I feel personal recommendations carry more weight. Of course, UK-based suppliers would be preferable due to shipping charges Thanks in advance, Stu Di Doo |

Used to do puppet cabaret in a Cumbrian Holiday Park a lifetime ago Stu, it's not that one at Flookburgh by any chance?
Sorry can't advise on suppliers. BUT, here's an interesting point. Should one offer 'extras' at extra charge or put one's fees up for EVERY party and include more. In other words if you went out as a husband and wife duo Stu (as we did for many years prior to my wife developing her own shows), then why not charge more for everyone and include face painting? Just a thought . . . best wishes, Tony. |

Sorry Tony no its the Center Parcs centre at Penrith.
The idea with the face painting is the three level package pricing. One hour show / Two hour package with balloons and games / Two hour package with balloons, games and face painting. My guess is that the majority will take the middle option and hopefully enable me to increase my prices. (The new one hour price will be the same as my current two hour price) I am aiming for these changes to take effect in the new year, when hopefully my reputation as a "quality" act will have spread far and wide Stu Di Doo |

I do quite a bit of facepainting using Kryolan. Its a good brand, great colours, coverage etc. I think this chap stocks it in the UK: http://www.charlesfox.co.uk
Snazaroo has a great reputation too but Ive never used it since its a little hard to find here in Australia. You can probably find the stockists on the Snazaroo website though. http://www.snazaroo.com The website also great forum for facepainters and a fantastic photo archive full of lots of interesting ideas. Its definately worth checking out if you are thinking of getting into facepainting. |

I usually use snazaroo - but I purchased some paradise make up from http://www.tmyers.com and they are very nice. Unfortunately I haven't found anyone stocking them in the UK. If you go to my website (just updated) http://www.kidzmagic.com I have a couple of Uk sites listed under the "links" section. Also I would recommend Jinny's Make Up artist vol. 1 DVD - also available from tmyers.

I gather Snazaroo is the market leader and it is their products I am after. the Snazaroo website lists a UK contact, and all the folks around here really swear by their product. One good reason is that it is less likely to cause an allergic reaction than some other brands. their UK email contact is UKoffice at snazaroo (dot) com and I think the office is in Somerset. Sanazaroo work very well. Just make sure that the paints you use are FOR face painting and are NOT toxic. You would be amazed at what I find people using at the festivals I work at.
Also, make sure that everything you use is sanitory. his means clean rinsing water to be changed often for the brushes. it means keeping things clean and neat at all times. This not only makes you look good, but it is much safer and healthier all around. Kyle

You might weant to try pams of gainsborough, they are a novelty stockist who I use for modelling balloons and snazaroo make up, they also do wigs and fancy dress stuff. You have to make a minimum order or pay postage which can make it a pain in the butt. I tend to make two big orders a year to make it owrth while but they are very good. check out http://www.pams.co.uk I think or just do a yahoo search to find them.

Snazaroo is excellent face paint. They sell a walkaround pallete that my wife likes a lot. I believe that they are made in the UK, They are difficult to find here in our part of the states. Keeping your brushes clean is very important. My wife uses soapy water to clean the brushes out and then dips them in Barbicide; A stanitizer that barbers use to clean their combs, Availible at beauty shop supply stores.
Also. Buy good brushes that will hold their shape after repeated uses. Also, we have a chart with different designs made up on it to help the kids get an idea of what they might like. It beats them sitting in the chair trying to make up their minds. |

I was recently performing at a festival and the face painter there was using acrylics (non-toxic). It looked ok...but I wondered how good it would be on the skin (even if it was non-toxic).

Does anybody use the stamps that snazzaroo puts out?

You might want to look into the 'dry' face paints that are available. They are less messy than the water paints and they go on every bit as easy. I swear by snazaroo so I'm alittle bias on any other.
What I am saying is you can't go wrong with them.

Yes, my wife and I have both used the stamps and they can work very well for fast and quicker face painting made easy. You can do more in a shorter time span and may be a good way for the beginner to get the hang of it. Once you have more experience, you can then venture out into doing freehand and then full face as well. The stamps do work though as an option and the kids can point to the design they like the best.

My fiance is a facepainter. She started with Snazaroo and really liked it but found the Paradise to be more to her liking. If you can't get Paradise, go with Snazaroo.

Snazaroo has worked great for my wife and I and we use them a lot. Certainly worth the money invested in them. Just make sure to keep your water clean at all times.

What is the best paint kit to get from Snazaroo to get started/
Are the crayine looking ones any good? |

I would go to snazaroo.com and take a look at what they have. Your best bet is to go with one that gives you enough colors to use and is basic so you can test it out and see if face painting is right for you. If you enjoy it, then you can advance to some of the bigger kits. If you find it is not for you, then you are not losing a lot on the intial investment.
