I'm looking for ideas for an "interactive" magic giveaway / novelty item which can be given away to audience members in large quantites ( around 15 000 )
The item needs to be able to importantly carry a sponsors logo (or better still be used in the effect) and be affordable. The effect can either be used as part of the show ( ala Copperfield's paper cards effects with the various locations - magic happens in the audience hands ) or can be a stand-alone item on itself for distribution pre-show. Any ideas ? |

This isn't anything major, but I know and have used fortune telling fish as give aways for the shows I do for family audiences. They are cheap and can be bought in bulk and people seem to enjoy them. It is an idea at any rate.

I think adults enjoy fortune telling fish more than kids do. They're great! Stick a label on them, or place your business card inside and you're good to go.
Two card montes are also good, but IMO the fish are the best. See ya! Joe L.

Yes, the fish come in packets of 144 each and you can get a lot from them. They also pack down very flat so do not take up much room when your trying to load stuff into your vehicle etc. The important thing to know is that no matter what you give out, make sure your marketing material and info. is on it.

Will you be teaching a mass audience at once how to do the trick? Or are you desiring something with instructions that they can walk away and learn from?
What is your definition of an "affordable" giveaway to a mass audience? Will it be mostly something for children, adults, or a mix of both? - Donald P.S. A promotional products distributor I know can provide personalized magic tricks, that can carry an imprint of a logo / contact information. It will cost a little more to get it imprinted, but then again, you don't have to stuff 15,000 business cards into your fortune fish, or put that many labels on. There is a wide range of options, everything from "the paddle trick" and up.

No - won't be teaching the effect ...
So - there are 2 choices: Either an interactive effect in which the entire audience is able to participate ( ala Copperfield's location cards which the audience received and by following DC's actions all came to the same result ) No method was taught - but everyone made us of a prop as part of the show OR A magic effect / novelty item which can come with instructions but really is self-working in nature and features the sponsors logo I personally am learning towards the first option. The effect is actually part of the performance - everyone participates and the sponsors logo cannot be missed ... Mostly an adult audience Affordable would be under 0.75c a piece ( we're talking about 15 000 ) |

Tell you what we did for awhile, we printed the domino effect (I believe its sold as What's next , but its the effect where you have a domino with one spot on one side and 4 on the other and then 2 on one side and six on the other) onto card stock and put into envelope that were passed out / or taped under they audiances seats. Then when the trick is performed just tell them you will teach them the trick and have them follow along. All except the final two steps which they cant do with just the printed card. The neat thing was they get to keep the card/ trick and if you do what we did make sure in one of the dots on each side is your contact info.

What's Next is a great give-away item that is both fun, practical and an easy way to place on your contact information for marketing purposes.
Another idea I do is to give out my optical illusions sheets. I do the Optical Illusion Disc that Bruce Kalver put out a while back and perform it in the festival shows. It gets a greta response and afterwards people like to learn or try others similar. This optical illusions sheet has a bunch of fun optical illusions they can try when they get home. It is easy to produce, costs only the cost of pritning them up at home or zeroxing them, and it packs flat. Kyle
