In Ammar's C+B video 1 Bob Read uses very small juggling balls. They don't bounce at all unlike the mike rogers balls which bounce audibly when I put down the cup much to my disappointment. Anyway does anyone know where I could get these mini juggling balls?

Regarding the Sherwood balls -- Brett just informed me that I misquoted the price. They are now $40.00.

I am so curious in what circumstances you guys work, that your audience can actually hear a ball bounce inside a cup?
I can come up with one situation: When I'm in a room alone with one or two spectators and there is no surrounding noise. Probably a living room? In that case I'd go for my old knitted balls. Personally I like the added weight of the rubber cores. Makes things like a striking vanish or topiting more shure-fire. Unfortunately I've never seen , nor handled a monkey fist in real live.

It all depends on your work environment. One situation in which I perform is a strolling situation with a large book. This book is basically a big hollow box, that looks like a real book. But it is HUGE. The cover is padded leather. When a ball hits that cover, it can make a noise that is louder than it would be if I were working on a table. However, if I speak at the right time, the noise is completely covered.

Mike was always the gentleman, willing to mentor at no cost, in exchange for the satisfaction that his thoughts and suggestions would be well regarded and put to good use. Always so willing to help a fellow magician, Mike had kindly offered me sage advise in respect to my approach towards trade shows and also in regard to recommending the most suitable mic system for my trade show presentations. When I discussed my interest in having a set of his mini-leather baseballs that would have a spare "no bounce" matching ball, Mike was more than willing to accommodate and customize the order at virtually no extra cost. I never did place my order for the matching No Bounce ball, since I decided that adding this extra "twist" ( a "Bounce/No Bounce" interlude)to my routine would throw off the rhythm and timing. Still, it is an idea that some magicians might wish to follow-up on for their own repertoire. Mike is sorely missed. All the best. Jonathan

Mike Rogers was a prince. There is no doubt about that. During the last couple of years that he was alive, he made a set of special baseballs for me that were exactly the correct size to go in a set of Paul Fox cups. We looked all over the place for the proper balls to put inside them.
He also gave me a lot of information about how to identify the real Ross Bertram cups as opposed to the Charlie Miller cups from Magic, Inc. I still have several sets of Mike Rogers baseballs that I got directly from him and/or from Joe Stevens back during those days. I had the pleasure of seeing Mike perform many times at trade shows. I also got to see him perform his stand-up act when he was still in the Navy. He did a very nice version of the Dancing Cane. We were both working the ASHRAE show in Houston, and I became the recipient of some "newbie trade show magician hazing" from Mike. He came to see one of my performances, which involved two items that required a bit of setup. One was a card in wallet routine that used a LePaul wallet and an envelope. The other was the newspaper tear. When I finished, he said, "Let's go watch Eddie Tullock work!" and he grabbed me and dragged me over to Eddie's stand. He figured I would need at least 5 minutes to reset the show. We watched Eddie work for about 15 minutes, and then Mike said, "Oh, man! You'd better hurry, you will be late to perform." I acted panicked and said, "I need to hurry!!" and I hightailed it back to my booth. He didn't know that I had already re-set the show. I worked at least 2 shows ahead, just so I could do that kind of thing. I never told him. It would have spoiled things for him. ;)

Great story Bill. Thanks for sharing it.
Mike was definitely a rare and great human being. Sounds like you have some wonderful stories to tell. When will your book come out?
