Hiya, Tophie:
I know a good deal about these gizmos, since I'm the manufacturer. The Boards are Baltic birch, about 15"x20", professionally silk-screened and covered with a green felt backing. They are artificially aged, include attractive accessories, and everything is packed in sewn cotton carrying case. My own routine is included as well. This effect is the finale of my own psychic shows. With proper build-up, the impact on the audience is stunning. The Board is examinable, and to date, no one (and that includes a room full of skeptics at the Steve Allen Theater in Hollywood who couldn't keep their paws off it) has ever discovered the gaffing during my shows. I'd like to keep it that way. If you buy this thing, and practice with it, you will scare some of your audiences and confound the rest of them. The description at Hocus-Pocus is fairly complete, but if you have other questions please post and I'll be glad to answer them. Sincerely, Leland Edward Stone |

How easy is it to set this up?
Do you have to wear a jacket? |

Is there an effect prior to the levitation?
How long is your routine? |

Hiya, Tophie:
The routine itself does not include a prior effect -- before the levitation, you will be responsible for setting the mood with other effects (Telekinetic Timber is one I use during the 'invocation' phase of my own shows). The routine, as scripted, is about 4 minutes long. You do not need to wear a jacket to perform -- in fact, wearing short sleeves or rolling up your long sleeves before the performance is recommended, in order to throw off those "in the know" about lifting f***s. Nothing is strapped to your arms, your vest, or your abdomen; this is a one-man effect and needs no IT, neither does it use refills or require replacements. The "set up" is as follows: Put the Board on a table, put the planchette (small wooden pointer) on the Board. You're now set. You do not need to 're-set' between shows, it's always ready to go. This board sounds really interesting!!! I have quite a prize collection of real, vintage Ouija Boards already. I often use them in real sessions with friends. So, I think this would be very authentic and normal for me to use with any audience.
I think I'll be ordering one of these very soon! If anyone has any new reviews for this product, please post them. Although I think I'm already sold, I love to hear opinions. Maybe we can even exchange techniques and experiences! Please PM me, if you're interested. Mystically Motivated, Dr. Faust

I have this effect and it is beautifully crafted and the "gimmick" is not detectable. This effect will play strong if it is properly choreographed as part of a psychic/spirit themed routine. I highly recommend it.
Best regards, Michael

Michael,
Thanks for the recommendation and info! I have a nice Ouija Board collection already, including some of the original William Fuld Boards. Since I am a Ouija Board collector and magician, this seems to be the ultimate culmination of my interests. I can't wait to get mine! Thanks again, Dr. Faust

Dr. Faust,
I am confident that you will not be dissappointed with the quality of this item or with the strong effect taht it can accomplish. I am sure that I do not have to tell you that in effects such as this one, subtlety is best and a less is more. With your experience you know what I mean by that. For others interested in this terrific item:don't overdo the effect unless you want to turn a dramatic, theatrical and psychic experience into a mere magic trick. Best regards, Michael

A video would be nice, the effect sounds great, but nothing can compare to a good video to judge.

Not all effects can be properly or adequately portayed in a short video segment. In order for this particular effect to be done properly and to have a strong impact, a certain atmostphere has to be created by the performer and by prior effects. A certain mystical/psychic tension should be created and this effect can be the culmination and release of that tension. The basis effect of this item is simple. It is the atmosphere and mood that the performer creates that makes the effect strong. You can not capture the mood and setting necessary for this effect in a short video segment.
Best regards, Michael

Hiya, Ben:
The accompanying accessories are a "planchette" (the pointer, crafted of Philippine 'mahogany') and a sterling silver gimmick. I'm sorry that a video is not available, but I'm not sure that it should be, either. The effect really is as simple, straightforward, and startling as the Hocus-Pocus ad copy describes it. No lay audience has ever nailed the method -- and that includes a room full of skeptics at a seance for the Center For Inquiry "Steve Allen Theater" last year. Granted, many of the audiences watching this bit are "believers," but few Magicians have precisely figured it out, either. Suitable for parlour or small stage settings, there are no angles with this product. Hocus-Pocus may have some left, but these are extremely small-run, labour-intensive products and I don't make a lot of 'em. They really are hand-crafted. N.B.: These are "Spirit Spelling Boards," NOT Ouija Boards (a service mark of the Parker Brothers, Inc.). Enjoy, but please don't use one to start a cult! Leland |

I am bringing this thread back to the top in hopes of hearing from other performers that have purchased and perform this effect. What is your feedback, comments, etc?
