I also am about to order the DVD, I figure as I am already carrying a ring and rope I might as well be able to do as much as I can with it.
Darren... Couldn't wait any longer, just ordered. Darren... |

Ok I have it, I wish I hadn't said I would comment on this as I would have liked to keep this to myself, I wanted some extra bits to add to my rope routine but this is a complete routine in itself if you want it to be.
On the first look I thought pretty nice routine you know like a just ok routine, then I tried some of the knots on a lay audience and "WOW" What a reaction, Now I realize how good this material is, and what a nice guy Dennis Loomis is, I would like to meet this man and shake his hand,( hope he will be at the WMS in february (pm me Dennis if you are)). |

Magic Man,
Thanks so much for your kind words. I'm glad that you are enjoying your purchase. Don't know yet if I will make it to WMS, but I often go, and hope that my schedule will make it possible this year. Look for the announcement of two new DVD's from Loomis Magic very soon. Denny

No Problem Dennis,
Just to let you know I have been doing the snapknot for some time now but now my patter is "I don't do it as good as my friend dennis Loomis" instead of Will Rogers Darren... |

Thanks, Darren. Check out my site tomorrow.
If you've been doing the Will Rogers Snap for some time, I recommend that you work on doing it with both hands at the same time. It's a terrific finale to the routine and you will probably be suprised that you can pick it up fairly quickly. Besides, it's always fun to have a new challenge to work on. Your friend, Dennis Loomis

Darren,
I havn't visited this thread for a long time and had not seen your response. I am sorry about your situation. However, I've recently been watching the three new Rene Lavand DVD's and am absolutely amazed at what he is able to do using just one hand. He does many things I can't do with two hands. At any rate, I apologize. Did not mean to offend. Dennis Loomis P.S. As to the question of whether anyone is doing my routine... I can report that Murphy's just reordered a new batch last week. So, at least some folks are buying them. It was not my intention that anyone do my exact routine. The DVD is a collection of many, many magical knots and flourishes. My recommendation is that you find the ones that you like and can do and devise your own routine. Last night I worked a Chanukah party. I did a 45 minute stand up show and then did walkaround close up. Because my time was short, I only carried and used three routines: Sach's Dice Routine, Jazzin with the Aronson Stack, and the Knots.

Yo Dennis, I just bought your rope DVD from Hocus-Pocus. Great DVD. It was highly recommended by Martini.

Happy New Year to You Dennis,
It has been a very busy december. I have a little time to chill now---well three days anyway. Your routine is still going strong. The Fundemental knot is a killer if you get the time-ing right, and you know when you get the time-ing right, its when they say, "DO THAT AGAIN." Darren... |

I've found the timing to be difficult.

I've been using some parts of Dennis' routine combined with some stuff from Flip's routine and some stuff I learned years ago to make my own routine. I highly reccommend you get both DVD's, ( they are both excellent) and piece together something that works for you. As you learn new knots and flourishes, you can always add and subtract segments to suit your needs.
I think that Flip's routine is a little more magical, while Dennis' is more of a dsiplay of skill. I've used both approaches to equal success. Older men always seem to appreciate the skill approach. I think it's because when they were young, people used rope a lot. There was no velcro or tie down straps with buckles. I remember my dad teaching me truckers hitches and so on. I also had to learn sheepshanks, bowlines and so on in boy scouts. I believe the "old guys" remember learning all this stuff when they were young, and the WW2 vets learned this stuff in boot camp, and seeing it again brings back memories of their youth. I've had guys ask to use the rope and show me knots they "used to know". It makes for a nice personal interaction. That's my 2 cents. Joe |
