Does anyone own the penguin cups and balls ( $99 )? I am looking to purchase a set as they seem so reasonable. You can't always trust reviews when supplied by a company so any feedback would be really helpful.

The cups you are referring to, I believe, are manufactured by Magic Makers. You may wish to ask Bill Palmer. I know he owns a set.

I bought a set and they are ok for a working set of cups. They are unfinished and downright ugly on the inside. I used sandpaper to remove the tarnish.
Good weight and shape. I would not consider these collector quality, but they are great for everyday use. |

I own a gold set and their nothing but beautiful! My set is not tarnished at all on the inside...in fact it's shiny on the inside! You also can't beat the price.

The copper cups come from Penguin, the others come from other dealers. They are copies of Paul Fox cups. The quality is variable. I've seen many sets of these. What you get when you order them is a matter of pot luck.
Several months ago, in an attempt to fill a gap in my inventory, I ordered a half dozen sets of the brass ones. Some were clean, others weren't. They quit putting the nifty vinyl drawstring bags with the brass ones a while back. You still get them with the copper ones. I haven't seen a copper set yet that did not require major cleanup on the inside. The brass ones are, as I said, variable. Sometimes there is grease left on them from the spinning process, other times, there isn't. The quality of the beads is a real issue. I haven't seen a set yet where all three cups had symmetrical beads. There probably is such a set out there. Now, are they worth the money? That depends on how much you pay for them. I think I would order a brass set off of eBay before I ordered a copper set from Penguin. You will save about 50% that way. But you can beat the price. The cups from Bazar de Magia and Uday are a lot cheaper. As soon as my stock is gone, I probably won't be ordering any more of them.

I own an aluminum set, not sure who makes them, and while they are not beautiful, they are practical for usage. Do you use the Michael Ammar presentation of Cups abd Balls or some other?

But the aluminum cups are not the ones these fellows are asking about. They are asking specifically about the Penguin cups. The Penguin cups are the copper cups by Magic Makers. The Magic Makers "Collectors Cups" are the brass ones.
Michael Ammar has several presentations of the cups and balls in his book. If you really are curious about the cups and balls, you might want to visit the section of the forum called "Ever So Sleightly." There are many threads about the cups and balls in that section. This section is really for evaluating specific tricks.
