Pete, you always do this to me! I feel like I should be paying you for the creative mentorship. Here is where I am at so far.
Last night I am watching Charlie Frye's new DVD Eccentricks 2 (For the record this stuff is so good for a busker that I really don't want to tip it here. Everybody will go out and buy it and just do Charlie's stuff. That is how amazing it is.). Anyway, I'm watching Charlie's plate work, he does a one plate routine with a Dube spinning plate that is great. It is mostly hat tricks done with a plate. Wow, ran right off the track again, Sorry. I just am floored by what an amazing performer this guys is. The short version of the story is this: A pie cannon, catching the pie on a plate, pie cannon back fires covering spectator. This could almost be an act on it's own. Do some plate juggling, spinning, etc. Lots of build up about the bullet trick including how the shot would pass through a plate before being caught in the magicians mouth. Of course, most of these guys are dead now... ...And that is why I am going to do it with, "THE FLAMING BAKED ALASKA OF DEATH!!" (Oooohhh...Ahhhhhhh). Yes, very dangerous indeed (note: I think any trick that you can find that will allow you to insert the words "flaming" and "death" is a guaranteed winner. This one also involves pie and goggles. I'm so excited I may need a Nembutal to go to sleep tonight). I am also thinking that if I give the spectator an oil skin poncho (Like Mac's cloak) and goggles. I can whack them with a pie and not have them upset. They some how still have to come out on top though or the trick won't fit my persona. This could be a GREAT finale. And I mean, dessert should always be the finale anyway right? I don't dare tell Gazzo about it because it has pies in it. He just hears the word pie and loses his mind. Something must have happened to him as a child I fear. Anyway, Thanks Pete. I am really going to invest some time on this thing. I know a guy, who knows a guy, who builds commercial air cannons that shoot confetti. I really think I could get one of these things built. Hmmm... What if it could fire in both directions simultaneously? Confetti out the front and pie out the back. It is starting to sound too big for the street but it is a funny, funny, idea. In the previous Century... I did a bit (I used to juggle) where I would place an egg on the ground, grip it between my heels, jump up, causing the egg to fly up in the air behind me... I would then catch it on the plate without breaking the egg.
Actually, that is what I "SAID I WOULD DO" ... what actually happened is the egg would hit the plate and shatter the plate, leaving me holding a small pie-shaped piece of the plate. How? The egg was made of steel and painted white. The plate was "pre-scored" with a glass cutter. Or... you can use a real egg and actually do this with practice.

That is a really funny bit.
About 10 or 15 years ago there was a guy who used to busk in Key west that had a thirty minute act that was called, "The World's Most Stupid Egg Trick." It was a variation of the old vaudeville card and tray routine. I think I saw it in print in Billy McComb's book "25 years wiser". Anyway, in this guys routine the egg was resting on a playing card that sat on top of an index card over a glass of water. After a 29 minute build up he would take a kitchen broom, stand on the bristles, pull the broom handle back, and **SNAP** knock the card out, and the egg would fall into the drink. Surprisingly, the guy actually had a very entertaining act, and eggs are funny, but not as funny as pies, but funnier than lemons. Best, Dan- Quote:
