Michel Close in his e-book "Closely Guarded Secrets" mentions a false faro shuffle from Homer Liwag, which was published in the October 1993 issue of Genii (Gary Ouellet's Fulmination #24). I'd love to learn this shuffle, as my faros are not quite there yet (I learned them the Michael Close way from bottom to top)
As I live in Switzerland, I don't have an easy access to a library with old issues of Genii. So any help will be appreciated. Sincerely Matt Any help

Search the Café, there's already a thread on this.
David Ben has one in his book Tricks, and R.Paul Wilson sells one on his website... |

IMO a false faro shuffle with the bridge and the wave is the best false shuffle for a stand up situation.
Very Deceptive |

The Liwag shuffle has the advantage that it is started with a full weave so it can be an out after a miscut or flawed weave instead of re-adjusting everything. It also has an audible "waterfall" convincer.
[At least if the Liwag shuffle is the one I am thinking of right now...] The other mentioned false faros are not usable as an out for a flawed faro shuffle. |

Seth, I tried, otherwise I wouldn't have posted here
Denis, could you help me learn the Liwag shuffle ? The way you are describing it is exactly for when I get a flawed weave. Matt

I do not have any description of it... Did you try getting the Genii back issue?!

If you head over to http://www.camirandmagic.com (the company Ouellet put out his stuff through) you can find his Fulminations columns in bound sets fo vol. 1-30, and then 31-end. They're pretty reasonable, being only $12.50 each.

Thank you for the last tips.
Actually (and luckily for me), Genii has the back issue, so I ordered it there, but I'll definitely will have a look at Gary Ouellet's web site. Sincerely Matt

The reason for this is the Liwag false shuffle requires the bottom half of the deck to be held in the right hand which is opposite the way a normal faro is executed. I guess you could always just hold a break after the false shuffle and then cut the original top half of the deck from the bottom back to the top. Just something to consider. Cheers! ** Bill ** |

The "false" action of the Hollingworth's in-the-hands false shufle can be applied after a faro.

'Tensai' mentions a Marlo false Faro on DVD. The one I saw is only good for red/black retention (26 reds on top of 26 blacks - or visa-versa), but it is good and did fool me when I saw it.
A good & easy False Faro (but no waterfall) can be found in Sawa'a Library of Magic (Kaufman & Greenberg). Peter

If you do a perfect Faro 8 times, doesn't the pack stay the same?

It certainly does, providing that you are doing out-faro's. I like to use perfects whenever I do the rare gambling demo. Just control 4 of a kind to the top, do 2 perfects and they are spaced 4 apart!

In fact there are a few very cool effects utilizing this principal. Do a search for "Unshuffled." If you take the time to learn it, I am sure you will have great success with it.

You can do 25 in-faros or 7 out-faros beforehand (good practice). Then you only need to execute 1 in or out faro to return the deck to the original order.

I Recommend R. Paul Wilson's the "Non Faro" Faro

The FARO from bottom to top is NOT Michael Close's. In fact, if you look in Marlo's The Faro Shuffle (RCT - Chapter 6, 1958), you will see that he teaches it from face to back, or as you say bottom to top. Also, you need 52 IN Faros to make the deck go back to its original order. This is stated in Faro Notes, again by Marlo. (RCT - Chapter 7, 1958)
