JHeff , really like Ultimental, playing around with this still as I'm trying an idea with the memory side of the presentation.
As regards to the envelopes in Ireland we have the same size envelopes ok, but not the same quality, i.e. 'Special Delivery' although not necessary for your effect. Cheers |

Only one envelope is used.
The envelope can be placed on the spectator's hand, but the performer tears it open and then the spectator can reach inside and pull the card out. And there is no carbon in the envelope... it's just one standard coin envelope and some standard business cards. Greg

In addition to Greg's answer to the second question, I'll point out that although the performer tears the envelope open, the participant removes the card. In retrospect, most participants think that they opened the envelope and took out the card. And that's what's important here. The third question, however, is the more complicated one. The answer depends completely upon your style because it doesn't have to be words and you could really use more than three. I choose three because it's the smallest amount necessary for this effect that a participant can easily remember. I have them remember three words that they have special meaning to them so it's easier for them to concentrate and remember them (words to a song, book titles, places, TV shows, etc.). You really don't need much more reason than saying that you'll read their mind and ask them to think of three words.

I think you are missing the point on writing down the 3 words. In a spectators mind why would you write them down, Why not just reveal the one word selected at random.

Thanks YousifS,
Another way would be to have the spectator to place the selected word card on the top of the other 2 cards thrn ask all the other spectators to concentrate on it. (If this fits into the routine) Will be buying this, any dealers stock it in the UK. Greg, If you 'HAVE BEEN DOING THIS ALL WRONG' your words then do it RIGHT. Sorry but posts like yours are not constructive. To think outside the box you must first know what is inside the box. Regards Mike

Mike,
if you look at your original post it reads as the usual "I'm really looking for a miracle" type post. So, I'm assuming, you've discovered a way of doing exactly what you've asked. I can't wait to buy either the notes or effect... it sounds like a winner. Greg

Mike, Respectfully, can I assume that you are a novice to the world of mentalism? If so, then this question is perfectly valid as it would appear that the step of writing down the words is an unnecessary "move". Obviously, you know I'm going to say that if you buy the routine and read the presentation, the justifications for doing everything are there. But let me explain the basic reasoning. It is totally impossible for someone who is thinking of three words to randomly select one of them. Something in their mind will ALWAYS influence their choice: their mood, the order of the words, something being looked at at the moment, etc. To be truly random the person has to choose something that he/she is truly unaware of. This is why the words are written down. Also, even though it's true, the real reasons for writing the words down involves the devious structure of the routine, but that's the part that the participants don't know about. The strength of this routine is the sealed envelope. Thoughts have been read and clearly sealed before they've been revealed or chosen. You could certainly do it without sealing the envelope and you could certainly do it with them only thinking of one word. It wouldn't be as strong, though.

Let me just thank once again all of those who've said kind things about my effect and those that have purchased it.
Now, on to the bad news. After I had proofed the third edition of Ultimental, the printer used a different source to print the booklets. The end result was that the bottom few lines on six of the pages were cut off. You can still make sense of the routine, but it's totally unacceptable to me. A few customers (including representatives from the distributor) pointed this out to me and, needless to say, I was horrified. Fortunately, the printer has reprinted the entire print run and replacement copies are now in stock with me and at the distributor. These new copies are identified now as the fourth edition and I have asked that all copies of the third edition be destroyed. If you have a third edition (it will say so on page 2), then e-mail me (my e-mail address is on page 2) and I'll e-mail you an errata page ASAP. If you purchased one from me, then I'll send you a replacement copy for free. If you purchased one from another dealer, then please contact that dealer about a replacement copy. I apologize for this inconvenience and hope that this won't detract from your enjoyment of performing this effect. -- Jheff

I found a link that might be interesting for those who need coin envelopes. There is a template on this page. I think it's easily resizeable with a computer.

Hi.
Is the prediction written and sealed before the spectator calls the 3 words? |

Yes, that is correct. This is a very good mentalism effect. Highly recommended.
