I thought that is what we do. Magic tricks. Bizarre magick is just that. Tricks with a twisted tale. I have learned that bizarre is built around the story of the effect. Not the effect in itself. The haunted deck is justs a magic trick, but with the right story behind it, it can be quite creepy. Don't let the fact that it looks like magic tricks fool you. You also learn how to spin a good yarn around your patter to make the effects come alive. And to answer gman's question. I don't have it yet, but I have seen it. I will be ordering it soon. My 2 cents. Well, there is a LITTLE more to Bizarre Magick than just telling a story. I won't get into that right now, however. I seen a half dozen, or more, theatrical seances and from what I've seen from the clips of the DVD (now, I admit that I've only seen the clips), the DVD seems to lean towards the less effective type of theatrical seance which just jams a bunch of "spooky "magic tricks together in a non-cohesive show which is called a seance. A successful theatrical/magical seance (called theatrical to differentiate from a real seance) is NOT just a bunch of magic tricks. It's also requires, as the name implies, theater. It might just be the cheesy way Penguin is marketing this DVD, but if so, they are doing it a serious injustice. The spirit cloth clip is just laughable. For a theatrical seance to work (and this IS theater), in my opinion, there has to be a reason for each effect, as in a good magic show. It shouldn't just be a hodge-podge of spooky effects. No I might be wrong, but the DVD looks as though it just teaches a bunch of effects and NOT how to craft a tightly-knit seance show. I don't know, maybe I should actually wait to see the DVD before knocking it ... I might just be wrong ;-) Dave |

Dave,
It also gives both a comedy seance and there is a bonus seance that is I guess a putting it together seance (I don't know my dvd hasn't arrived yet). As soon as my copy comes in I'll report on it. To me (A beginner) it did look like it would be a good place to start to learn. Just my two cents. Happy Haunting this Weekend Everyone. |
