Anyone here scuba dive?
I have just done my PADI openwater and found it one of the best experiences I have ever had. I did my course in greece then had a few awesome fun dives. One of which was into a cavern and that totally ROCKED I must recommend this to anyone that has thought about it but never done it. DO IT DO IT DO IT!

Next year I will go for a PADI certification. I still need to be a stronger swimmer, it was never a big part of my life until recently.
What got me hooked was my wife and I where in Cancun a couple of years ago. We went on a trip that was called B.O.B. It was a scotter with a helmet that they pumped air into the helmet. Anyway you sat on this scooter and went down about 26 feet which is not a lot but they picked an area with a lot of ocean life. We could cruise around for about an half an hour. Saw some of the most beautiful things in my life down there. I really want to go and see more! Caverns sound cool!

We just recieved our Open Water PADI also. We did the bookwork in California and completed the certification in Aruba. It is the most amazing experience.
We're in the middle of getting our Advanced certification now. A couple weeks ago, off the coast of California, we did a wreck dive down to about 90 feet. It was incredible. I have to say though, everything is so much prettier in the Caribbean. In the Pacific off California, it's very dark and the fish are not very colorful. Have fun! Here I sit in the middle of the midwest - certified for advance search and recovery! I got my PADI and MIDI certifications in Guam.
Oh well... Sad thing is they offer refresher courses locally!

I still need to be a stronger swimmer The certification swim is not timed nor do you have to use a particular stroke. When you have your scuba gear on you have a buoyancy aid in the form of a jacket. The swim is in the unlikely event of having to remove your tank and buoyancy aid. Quote:
Caverns sound cool! They were. There were openings in parts of the caverns where the sunlight blasted down in massive columns. There was a mix of salt and fresh water that added to the atmosphere giving wonderful layers. And you could hear the water sloshing about in the openings in the ceiling. The main cavern was about 16m deep and about the size of a large church hall. We swam up through another opening that was still submerged at about 5m and sat and fed some fish. Awesome times! Quote:
we did a wreck dive down to about 90 feet WOW. I want to include wreck diving on my advanced. It sounds like a really overwhelming experience. I know it took me hours after my cavern dive to absorb all of the experience and diving wrecks sounds interesting from historical pov.

I took SCUBA as a gym class in college. It is one of the greatest hobbies one can have. When I got married I told my wife that we can go on vacation anywhere she wants but I have a rule. I either bring my golf clubs or my SCUBA gear.
Wanna hear something sorta funny? I went to college in Buffalo NY, did my training dives in Canada, and have never dove in America. The best diving I have ever done was in Puerto Aventourus (sp?) Mexico. Did some cave diving, reef diving, and went to 120'. They even have Mayan ruins that have flooded and are now under anywhere from 10 to 40 feet of water. Incredible stuff. "The Wall" and "Widow Makers Cave" in Jamaica were excellent as well. Nothing like an 5000' wall straight down. Even the Bahamas have excellent diving. And if you live on the east coast it can be a pretty inexpensive 3 or 4 day vacation. I live in Apex NC (just outside of Raleigh) and we have some excellent quarry diving in the area but have never gone, and have some of the best ship wreck diving in America off the coast, but have yet to go. I go to Topsail Island a lot, but that's to play golf. |

Hi
I am a Services Air Diving Supervisor (British Military Qualification) and taught diving for 10 years. Spent 3 1/2 years in Gibraltar - it has every type of diving you could want, from 6m very safe bay dives to 1000m drop offs (only a 20 min. window on this one at slack tide). Paula
