What would you guys say is the average yearly salary for a street magician? How many hours a day, how much a day? Thanks.
You know you are a magician when you have boxes full of lecture notes you have never read, but still are excited about going out and buying more.

To give a brief, unqualified answer (as busking is not my profession)- it depends on many factors. I reasonably feel that there is no "standard" by which an annual salary has been established.
Location is one consideration. One could work for as many hours a day as he wishes in places where there is always foot traffic. As well a busker could work as many shows a day as he wishes as long as the crowd is there. At the risk of sounding like a marketing scheme, income is only limited by how much one wishes to work. On the other hand, a performer must be effective in drawing people in, entertaining them, and finally GTM. And there are performers with varying degrees with this asset. So, again, I submit that income is only limited by ability to do the above stated. I am sure that there are quite a few buskers here who can and will share that there is good money to be made, but only limited by the performer's drive. Jim |

To give a very truthful answer. The salary of a busker is 0 pr year. Yep that is ZERO per year. We don't work for wages (In the U.S. it is called W2 income) we work for tips on the street so our income depends not on a union going on strike but on US, and how good of an entertainer we are.
No salary, no benefits, but I LOVE this business and wouldn't have it another way. Peter |

No, what I mean is, how much does the average busker make in tips a year, basicaly how much a busker rakes in a year or a day.

SwissKid52,
I will refer you to the answer I gave and the answer that Paddy gave. It depends on the performer and the working condition. Money can be good, or money can be not so good. Check out The Art of Krowd Keeping as an intial reference to find more on your question. Jim |

I make as much as I need! My first day I made $135 doing magic in 3 hours....not great but a start.
It depends on you and how good you are. koz |

Koz, $135 in 3 hours is $45 per hour, not bad even today. My question was what year was that? It probably was a heck of a lot of money then.

Yea...well it made me think about my life and what I was doing with it. Working at Cornell University as an engineer. I did it a few more times, found success, and left my job. Big balls right? But to be a street performer you have to have some balls. Not for the meek.
