Hi,
Why must most coins across routines use at least 3 coins? Why not one coin? Thanks. |

Most? Slydini's one coin routine? Tenkai Pennies? It's been done and in print
In direct answer to your question, it has to do with time/effort returns on doing a trick.

But there are better possibilities using more then one coin, because JUST to do a coin across with a single coin is too short a routine..it's over before it almost started.. One coin routines like David Roths or Slydini's aren't *real* coins across routines, but *one coin routines* and these are great!

How about three repeat performances of one coin transpositions?

Yes, I agree and he would love to know you are thinking about this. Magnavphd2000@aol.com to say hello to him.

According to David Roth, the first coin surprises the spectator, the second helps them to understand that they are watching a coins across, and then the spectator is really watching. So it seems to me that a coins across has to use at least 3 coins so that the actions can establish a pattern.

The power of three is often used in advertising, debates, and the written word. Stating something with three separate but related points works well, flows smoothly and people feel comfortable listening to it.
I'd go on but to do so would be redundant, off point and make my examples unconvincing. Frank

I use two coins.
First. I put both coins in my right hand and I say "No, it's better to keep one coin in each hand" and I put one coin in my left hand. But both coins end up in my left hand. Second. I show one coin in each hand. Both end up in my left. Third and last. I put both coins in my left hand and say "No" etc and take one coin in my right hand again. Then my right hand tosses its coin to my left hand. Both coins end up in my RIGHT hand. Two ungimmicked coins and two hands. Not very original but simple and effective. |

Thanks for sharing Leko - that gives me an idea for a chop cup type routine in the hands using some simple sleights - could be fun
catch you later

Notice that although Leko's routine uses only Two coins, it has THREE phases. Again with the Rule of Three.

If you think one coin can do the coin arcoss. Try to create a one coin aross routine. Actually, I have a one coin aross trick. Do the one coin aross 5 times. |

I know I am risking a lot to say it, but I think David Roth's performance if Winged Silver in Volumn two.
The first one suprises, the second one the spectator can get visually, the third one I either make it seem harder, or make it differnt (such as introducing ideas such as doing on their hand, or my own hand in plain view, etc) The last one would be a finale, probably in their hand. This is how I go about it.
Neophyte.

Sol Stone has a routine where a coin jumps a few times. This amounts to a one coin across done four or five times. He's also adopted my one coin jump into one of his older routines. That came as a welcome surprise.
Yes, you can do a routine where just one coin jumps around. Keep in mind that the a walk of a hundred miles begins with a single step. Also that each step we take is different when we learn to notice where we are and what we are doing.

I don¡¦t suggest 10-15 times. Spectators may know what false transfer is? Why am I doing 5 times? My routine, each across is look like harder than last time. I don¡¦t know how to do one more time. My one coin routine is like this(I am left hander. You may confuse): 1.right hand to left hand 2.Coin in right hand. Do the magic twice. The coin go to left and back to right in one second. 3.Coin in right hand, show left hand empty. The coin jump to left in one second 4.Coin in left hand, show right hand empty. The coin jump to right in one second. 5.Show the coin really in right hand and close fairly. Then jump to left hand. If you have an idea for the 6 time. Please tell me. Thx. My English is bad. If you don¡¦t understand. Tell me. I will find another way to tell you. |
