Hello:
I have the Sterling and Johnson - both are excellent. I'd say I like the Sterling a little bit better because I like the look of the Chinese coin better. And you're right - it's less expensive. Ron |

Ron Reid is absolutely correct...I was born in Shanghai
The Sterling Chinese coin looks just like a Chinese coin! The Johnson's does not! Gerard |

I agree with Pete...if you can afford one from Todd, get it and get is Silver Dollar Size because his foreign coin looks real and is even has a different texture to the metal. It is the best.
If you can't afford that, the Sterling coin looks better, but I like the OLD Johnson set with the obviously non-Chinese coin because the line I use in the trick is, "Here we have an American half dollar, a Mexican 20 Centavo piece and an American Washer disguised as a Chinese coin..." It always gets a nice laugh. See Darwin Ortiz' book, "Strong Magic," on my thoughts on how to intelligently present this effect. |

I just got Cody Fisher's set which is the Sterling set with an extra chinese coin and a copper coin which is needed for cody's routine. I like the Sterling set a lot. Works well and no quality control issues.

I agree with Pete and runawayjag.....go with Todd, His stuff has always served me well and he is very easy to work with. You get what you pay for. If you want the best go with Todd. If you want something less then best go to sterling or Johnson.

Got a set from Todd (silver canadian dollar size)which has a genuine big old chinese coin.
What is so great about this set is that because of the big coins and the chinese coin, the gimmick also sounds good. Not the thinny sound of halfdollar size sets. Those who are "in the know" marvelled about these particular sound properties. Todd, you're still the best!

Cody Fisher's set works great for me.
And there is a wonderful routine for the C/S/B set in Paul Green's DVD In the Trenches.

Yes indeed, Paul Green's idea of incorporating the Chinese purse is very cool! The best thing is that you can find these very easily at any Chinatown or Little Tokyo area of a big city.

Hey Guys,
Just to clear something up...I don't really have my own "set" of coins. I do sell a complete package for my "Real World" copper / silver / brass routine. This package is available through Hocus Pocus...it includes all the coins and a special purse. The coins that come with my routine are the Sterling coins. I personally prefer them to the Johnson for the reasons stated above. The BEST coins are from my friend Todd Lassen. I will warn you however...if you want to do "my routine" with coins that Todd makes...it could get a little expensive. My routine calles for two extra coins in addition to the "normal" set for CSB. If anyone is interestd in my routine...it has just been re-released on DVD. You can find a review for "Unforgettable Coin Magic" at http://www.coinvanish.com. Thanks for the kind words guys... I do think the Johnson set is good for every performer. Unless you are a collector you must go for Todd's set.
But I can let you know Todd's delivery time is terrible! You need to wait and wait......even the set is already in stock. Last time I have ordered a set from him. He told me that the set don't need to special make and ready in stock. I immediate sent him my payment by Paypal. After that I have sent him six email on the following months and only one email have replied. Finally I got my set after 65 days ! What a long wait ! Please note that I am in US Not outside U.S.A. I just cann't imagine how long it will take if you are outside U.S.A. !!!!! |
