I was planning on competeing in a magic competition. and I wanted to ask what everyone thought about my question. What do the judges look for when you are competing. Originality,perfection ect. or is it everything thanx for yaur input.

One main thing is magical nature... try to make it look like you are making real magic and not just using the newest coolest gimick.

There is always a FADE effect at Magic Competitions that every other act uses. It is really funny to watch and then say "wow my act is all original and those chumps are all doing the same thing."

Each competion has it own set of guidelines. SAM, IBM, and others.
I must add to the forementioned criterias one thing I look for in commercial appeal. Can this act work for real people? Does it get on and off easily? Does it leave the stage clean? Does it take a minimum of technical lighting. etc. Working contests is great but the real purpose is to train people to work in the real world not just for a magic contest.
