Is anyone familiar with this specific die box?
Hank asserts that it is the "most beautiful" die box he has seen. Additionally, he states that the g*****k fits in its own recessed compartment and is veneered in genuine walnut rather than the usual flat black paint. It appears that it is manufactured by Babcock, but the picture of this box on Hank's website (not very clear) shows dovetail joinery work; something different from the Babcock boxes I have seen. Also, Hank is asking just $225.00; a pretty reasonable price if the quality lives up to the claims. My main questions are: 1) How is the quality of this box compared to Mikame, Owen, or other Babcock die boxes? 2) How undetectable is this new walnut-grained g****k? Would you feel comfortable in displaying this box closely to spectators at the completion of the effect? If so, how close? Apparently, Hank is proud enough of this box to offer a money-back quarantee if not completely satisfied. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hello:
Unfortunately, Hank no longer carries this Die Box, even though he still has the ad on his website. I contacted him via email a while ago about this die box and was told the bad news; his best die box now is the Babcock version. Ron |

So you don't feel too badly about missing out on the wooden gimmick...I have one of Ben Stone's Delben Die Boxes and the wooden gimmick has sort of "warped" over time making the set a very nice collectible, but not useable from a practical standpoint.
BTW Ron Allesi has an Owen Die box on his sight now. |

Thanks Ron & Julie,
Having found no other reference to the 'Deluxe Walnut Die Box' on the internet, I kind of felt it was probably out of production. Since I'm looking for a 'traditional' die box, I guess I'll have to decide between buying the Babcock or trading my arm & leg for the Owen. ;-)

If you want an absolutely gorgeous Die Box, Mel Babcock made a very few Rainbow Die Boxees, an old Thayer item. I don't know that anyone would actually do the routine (color changes, etc.) but it is a fabulous box and reasonably priced.
