Just thought I'd mention that anyone interested might look to the "Subtle Amnesia" chapter of Psychological Subtleties 2 for more insight on this subject.

This is my take on that plot.
Tower of Thought: The ultimate ‘changing what a spectator remembers.’ A spectator looks through the deck face up. They stop at one card and place their initials on the face. It is then turned face down and they sign their name to provide hardcopy proof of the memory change. The audience views the card front and back and are asked to remember it. The assistant is shown the card and their signature one more time. Thirty seconds later the audience is shocked to find the spectator does not know the name of their card. Fifteen seconds after that they are shocked to find it is their collective memory that has been altered and not the mind of the original participant. In short, this effect pays off twice- once in audience reaction to the spectator forgetting the card and the second time when they realize they were the ones who had their memories altered. -J ack H.o.A-X
