If you don't have fundamental skills, you may find that intermediate and advanced books will make you more frustrated than not. Frustration tends to repel interest in most folks, so I would caution you on this approach. On the other hand, I have read many a book for the enlightenment and enjoyment alone.
Most books of all levels do have something even a 'beginner' can work with, so don't be afraid of them - but, if it is a study and practice of the art you are working towards you really should start from the beginning. Those type books are listed here on the site as stickies to this forum. |

I might be missing some system here, but what are "Level 2" magic books. None of my books have Levels.......

If you were interested in cards, definately start with Royal Road to Card Magic and Expert Card Technique. The Card College series is a good encyclopedic collection of sleights. Royal Road has long been considered a foundation work for beginners in cards.
Books, like Card Magic of LePaul and Arthur Buckley's Card Control would be considered intermediate works.

I think he means intermediate books. The problem is that intermediate books, assume that you know all the basic sleights(sometimes more advanced sleights). So if you don't know the moves in RRTCM or Card College or Modern Coin Magic, you'll have no idea what most author's are referring to.I strongly recommend Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic,RRTCM,Amateur Magician's Handbook...or most of the books included in the recommendation in the 1st 3 sections of the beginner's forum.

Rob I think he ment Level 2 as a relative term to indercate something just beyond the begginers level of things, not level 2 in the strict sences.

Then again, I've been doing magic for something like 25 years, and I still study those books very carefully. I go back to them all the time, and without fail find something I had read over the first time but wasn't ready to absorb just yet. These are "desert island" books. --Ezra. |
