Hi everybody,
I'm looking for an effect where someone can control (or predict) on what side the coin will fall. I'm interested in both gimmicked and impromptu effects. Any help appriciated, Thanks Danny |

It's easy when both sides are... the same. Not very examinable though.

Hi Danny , an associate of mine named Gary Kosnitzky Just put together the most amazing coin toss and control I ever seen in my life. Not only can he predict what the coin will land on!!!! He can also let the spectator catch it after he predicts it. At the Magic live Convention , around a handfull of sharp Magicians ,Gary predicted 20 out of 20 coin tosses, we all thought he was using a double sided coin or at least he was switching the coin...(WHEN IT FACT IT WAS JUST THE METHOD he used to CONTROL THE COIN..ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!)I am aware that this method has been around for over 50 years......"HOWEVER".....Gary has researched this hours on end !!!!!!He has just finished his booklet, involving detailed instructions that will be in stores with in a month or two. This is a must for all you coin workers (whom have no idea how to do it.."LIKE ME"lol) to learn proper expert control of a coin flip. Kositsky is a member here on the Café...many may know of him for his creation of CIG. up the nose..

Hi Mickey,
Sounds amazing indeed! Please correct me if I got it wrong, the effect is: The magician makes a prediction, and then flips a coin into the air. The spectator catches the coin only to discover that the prediction was accurate. I'm waiting to put my hands on this booklet! Thanks |

You might Ask Paul Chosse about something of John McMillen's.

You know in third grade my PE teacher told me the way the coin is facing when you balance it on your thumb matters because it'll fall on the opposite faces. if heads is up you can catch it on tails. it worked like 4 out of 5 times. this sounds like an extreme version of the kiddie trick lol.
tom craven hs this trick where you predict what coin the spectator will pick. Another one he has, the person's zodiac sign coin is found in a mentally selected glass. |

Thanx Mickey.........I am glad you were there when I was showing off the "coin toss." Coming from a man of your calibre with coins is a nice compliment. I have been diligently preparing a training package to teach this move. I am sure that everyone who was impressed by my Cigarette Up The Nose will have fun with this one.
I attended the Mathematical Association of America Conference here in Las Vegas several weeks ago. I met with Persi Diaconis and showed him this obscure move and gave him a rough draft of my treatise on this coin toss. He seemed very pleased with my enthusiasm and my work. He told me that it was the best flip he ever saw. He is truly a very kind man. And so are you Mickey. Gary Kosnitzky |

OK there's my own experience...
I have used Larry's version of flipping more than once, and it work amazingly, people are just fooled... Still, with LOTS of time and LOTS of practice, I can now do almost perfect throws that enables me to just "choose" the side it will land on (just have to position it on the side I want to... the coin just do exactly the same amount of flips everytime (it IS possible). Still, the outcome are 8 out of 10 (for the moment, but I just practice everyday (like I used to do while practicing the palm back in the days...)) An easier physical version is to flip it on the table (so the coin spins around like a ball). when you do that correctly, the coin will land 100% on the opposite side that was facing you. (if tail is facing you, you can predict (while spinnig) it will land on head, and vice versa) hope that helps, I've had free beers more than once with these! (apart for my double headed of course...) Gary, can't wait for your manuscript!!! hope to have it before xmas, I'm going to vegas!! Ludwig

I figured another way:
palm a coin in right hand (on the side you want.) Flip it with right hand, pretend to catch it with right but let it fall on left. slam your right on left fist... and voila!
