Sentimental old fool maybe, but I was just looking through some old LP records (vinyl to you kids!), and came across a 1976 LP called "Strike Up The Band" by the band of The Black Watch.
Side 1, number 4 "The Marines Hymn". On the sleeve it says "as a tribute to the memory of their many friends in the United States the band have included a tune that salutes that most famous of American institutions - The US Marine Corps". So here we are, nearly 30 years on, and the Marines and The Black Watch are together in this hell on earth. Kinda' just got to me a little! It would also get to you a little if you heard the Marines Hymn being played on the pipes. Pity we can't load sound files onto here . . . Tony. No political comments thanks . . . |

I would love to hear that! I was fortunate enough many years ago to attend a Black Watch performance at Madison Square garden...a massing of the Pipes...commandos dropping from the ceiling on ropes and oh man the Drummers! Sticks flying high in the air...the sound will never leave me. My hair still stands on end in excitement. Lucky you!

I would also love to hear that, I served in the United States Marines so naturally my thoughts have been with my brothers, espically these last few weeks. I would love to hear the Hymn on the pipes. I was not familar with the Black Guard so I just did a little research on the internet. Very interesting. Their motto is "Cuimhnich gaisge agus treuntas ar sinnsear." which means "Remember the Valour and Brave Deeds of our Forefathers." The Marine Corp Hymn gets me always but I would love to hear this rendition your describing.
