You can attach pockets to a casual jacket. The same conditions used for a tux jacket are required.

I've heard that the rule is to dress one notch better than your audience.
So if you are working in a resort in Maui, and people are in bathing suits, a Hawaiian shirt and slacks (not bluejeans) is appropriate, and suit or even jacket is out of place. See Carl Andrews "No jacket required" DVD and Magic from Maui. But, if you are working a business dinner party where everyone is in a suit then a tuxedo is called for. Just be sure to practice in whatever you will wear, I read in a thread that someone kept missing a move because he had a pen in his pocket that he did not have when practicing.
Nothing would get done at all, if man waited so long that no one could find fault with it.

Of course, you can!
On the street people accuse me of sleeping in a coat and tie. (Yes, I've done that too, but I wasn't supposed to be.) Seldom does an audience or many magicians see me without at least a sport coat. At home I wear jeans and cowboy boots! There have been times when the performances were at an outdoor party and wearing a coat was totally out of place. The worst of the worst is on the deck of a boat or pier. The wind kills you. But the show goes on. Use more box magic and table loads! There are plenty of props that don't require coats. The drawback is that they usually sentence you to one spot on stage. That may not be where the "sweet spot" is in the audience. But those are the breaks. We sometimes have to live with plan X, Y, or Z. Enjoy! Bob Magic By Sander |

Sure, if you consider a Bikini casual clothes!...Just kidding, I often perform in cotton “Dockers” and a polo shirt supplied by the company with their logo on the pocket. Being able to perform in magic attire or casual clothes is a must to get more work.
