Banachek has much to say on this topic in his Psychological Subtleties.

As with all these things the honest answer is "it depends".

I would say that if you asked "Think of a card I would never know?" then most people pick the Queen of Hearts.

Hi

I experienced that in my shows whenever I asked someone to just now think of a card the most often card chosen was the 7 of hearts.

There are some reason of human behaviour behind this. if you ask someone for a number lets say between 1 and 10 they most often say 7.
And if you ask someone just now to think of a suit for cards then the most often answer is hearts.

Thus the seven of hearts is one of the most often cards chosen.

There are some routines out there. One I also tried out and served me good is the "perfect thought projection" by Richard Osterlind.

It's a wonderful routine where you ask someone to think of a card.

Regards,

Thomas

An important factor is how you phrase the request, 'Think of a card' and also the time (and 'way') the have to think.

A of S is a very pop. card. But also well known to be so.

Q of H is also a very pop. card. Although it can 'change' slightly e.g. Q of D, K of H.

7 of H, is also a common choice and really works well if you use language to help your odds. Derren Brown's book, Pure Effect has a prime sample of that.

J of C, is often named although it may not seem an obvious choice, but I think that's why its named/thought of often. This can also 'change' slightly e.g. J of S, even to the K of C, it just kind of roles of the tongue nicely.

I could go on (can you tell Ive looked in to the notion of Pop. Cards, quite a bit?!), but the odds of them being thought of start to get smaller.

Generally speaking, 'Odd numbers' are most often named and 'Hearts' is the most popular suit.
I'm only guessing but Id say the 'order' goes Hearts, Clubs, Spades then Diamonds.
Thats 'verbally' but 'visually' id say the order is different due to some suites being more 'psychologically appealing' when pictured in the mind. For example, a lot of people find it hard to imagine what 'Clubs symbol' looks like. So at a guess I'd say, Hearts, Spades/Diamonds, Clubs when thinking visually.

Hope this helps and doesn't seem like one mans ramblings,
regards,
Alex.

Most women choose the Queen of Hearts and men choose the Ace of Spades.

I find that it's the older women that choose the Queen of Hearts...not the younger women.

As someone who has done many "transactions" on the phone, it would be either Visa or MC, and then AmeX.

You're absolutely right, John. I would go with Visa from your list...ha, ha. I guess I'm simple minded.
