I have heard that you can use the wax that surfers use on their boards too. I have not experimented with this yet though. Has anyone here tried it? Does it work?

I read on here about that surf wax, apparently the brand is 'Sex Wax', no joke!

Surfers Wax Is called sex wax. There are several brands ( Dr. Zoggs being the most well known). this wax is somewhat hard but chewy (yes it comes in flavors too). I have not tried it for magic but would not really consider it as the flavors also have a strong scent.

I've had success w/ the wax used to cover sharp spots on braces. Check next to the tootbrushes at the pharmacy. Small quantities only. It does not smell and doesn't leave your hands all sticky.

I can see using the toilet ring wax for card on ceiling, but not for general purpose magicians' wax, it's way too soft !!
I bought a ring, and now it sits around because I can't see using it. I can't even get the stuff off of my fingers.

I've been told that bees wax, sold in craft stores to make candles with, makes a really good magicians wax. It has the right tackiness for most applications and is easily carried using an old-tin, breath mint box from Starbucks Coffee house or something similar from the local drug/grocery store.

Bard's tacky wax, you can find them online has the best wax for card to ceiling and very inexpensive. I used to sell it at my lectures and everyone seemed to love it, sticks to anything and easy to handle. I think it is used to hold candles as well.

I'm still wondering how anyone can use toilet ring wax for general purpose magician's wax.
I can't even form a decent little ball with the wax from the ring I bought, it's far too soft and sticky. It's just mush, and that's from when I bought it in the winter too.

I'm using "dental wax" for all my IT work. I purchased it in Walmart for under $1, it comes in a plastic case and is enough for quite a while. Softens up in the fingers and is quite sticky.

I've used florist wax (that's not what its called, but it's the same). Picked up a pack at the floral section of hobby lobby. If you buy flowers on a regular basis, you might get a free batch to try before you buy.

Yes, I am a magician. No I did not make my hare (hair) disappear... it just took early retirement.

I had a mix of wax I always made, a combo of magicians wax from a dealer and some sold in candle store for sticking candles to holders, so they do not tip. It was great. Accidentally left it at a show a couple weeks back.
So I went out and got a toilet ring, only .78 but I agree it is impossible to use. I was surprised as so many people have suggested this, including me quoting others at one time. It will not make a ball and is just messy. Today I got some of the orthodonal wax and it is fine. That I bought smells minty, and is all they had, but that is not really a problem as no one is sniffing it. I did save some of the toilet ring wax, which seems to be pretty good when mixed with the dental wax, it makes it even sticker. This combo is fairly similar to what I had before. I used to have an issue with my snake basket, where I use it, in that the card wanted to fall off in colder weather. That is why I started using the U-Stick stuff from the candle store. I think you will like the dental wax, it is very similar to what I got from magic dealers, it balls up, does not take 2 hours to get off your hands, and is sticky. Quack |

I agree I have used dental wax for three or four years. I lived in the Dominican Republic and couldn't get any magician's wax and I was at a store and saw some dental wax and it works great. There are a few schools and houses of friends down there that still have cards on the ceiling, atleast that is what they tell me.
