For inspiration:
Gypsy Sorcery and Fortune Telling by Charles Godfrey Leland [1891] is available online to read at http://www.sacred-texts.com/pag/gsft/index.htm "This book discusses spells, incantations and talismans used within Gypsies culture, as well as the more practical magic they use in their interaction with the Gorgios--the non-Gypsies. It is this latter topic which provides some of the most interesting and instructional reading. Leland gives some generalized methods of fortune-telling which any prospective psychic would do well to study; as well as the details of the 'Great Secret', a magic trick in which all of your money disappears..." NB: Many similar occult online books are available as well at this site http://www.sacred-texts.com/index.htm Olivier

Yes, this is very similar (up-dated) perspectives to Anna Riva's "Black & White Magic" which offers general insights for key Zodiac and Reading issues; curses, how to sell the curse, etc. It is the manual used by countless charlatans over the decades!
If you are interested in the Gypsy culture in particular, look into Ray Buckland's books on this topic. Ray is very much part of the Roma Gypsy traditions (born & raised, for lack of a better term) and I do believe his wife is Roma... (not certain) They're both great people with a vaste sum of knowledge about the Pagan religions and ritual magick.

What a fascinating book, Olivier. Thanks very much for posting the link. I've just had a quick look around the rest of the 'sacred texts' site, and there seems to be a great deal of material that could be used to inspire bizarre/mentalism routines.
All the best, Tony G. |
