I'm currently doing research to make sure a new cut I'm developing is in fact new, and quickly discovering that flourishes are much less well-documented than many areas of magic, so I'm appealing to word of mouth to at least give me an idea.
How many 5 or more packet one-handed cuts are out there? (I'm counting packets which touch only at the edges of the cards if at all) The only in-print one I've found is the king cobra, and it's nothing like mine, so I have no fear there(mine is a palm-up cut). Unfortunately, I've discovered before that in the world of videos any clip could be slowed down and used to learn a move, so I don't want to post a clip of mine for comparison. Suffice it to say that it contains one 'triangle' shape, two 'clipped' packets, up to three balanced packets, and one relatively horizontal packet (yes, it's expandable up to a full and fair 9 packets with no help from the other hand) I know for a fact that this cut is original in invention to me and a friend who helped with some ideas, but if someone is already doing a cut with similar elements, the last thing I want to do is bring out a cut that looks like a rip-off. I'm most especially interested in if anyone already does the base-move to the cut, involving one 'triangle' shape and another relatively horizontal packet. If any of these moves sound like something you've seen, or for that matter if you know of any cuts other than the king cobra that clearly and distinctly display 5 or more packets at a single point during a one-handed cut, let me know who does them and what they're called. I want to be absolutely sure I don't tread on someone's turf with this one. Thanks so much for any help you can provide! sincerely, Tiberius Magus |

Thanks for the tips. I'm in contact with him to ensure that I don't claim any of his material. By the way, are those book cuts of his one-handed?
Also, has anyone heard of someone else doing cuts like this? sincerely, tiberius magus |

They are all one handed. His Cobras go up to 9 packets too from what I read on the forums.

The idea with balancing I have seen before. Making like a triad and balancing a packet on top and doing some other split a long the way, a friend of mine does it. If it is anything like his it should look very cool. Since he is just a small town (semi-small town) Knoxville, magician. I imagin that the two of you will never meet or see one another work unless on or the other becomes famous, go for. Take a picture instead of a clip. I want to see it!

Yeah, devo gave me some tips and now I'm working on adding more packets on top using a move from the bridge cut, namely a 'tent' shape on top of an existent horizontal packet. the balance required is killing me right now, but as I work on it this new move leaves a potential for up to 12 packets. doing one in each hand with another packet held between the thumbs, this would make for a 25-packet bridge cut, with the option for another packet between the pinkies for a 26 packet circular display. I definitely have to start using more than one deck. Some of my balanced packets have to be tossed to close the cut, and the more packets I get the fewer cards are in each packet, making the tosses tougher and tougher. Apparently Pia does a move along similar lines for a 14 packet one-hander. I would love to see that in action.
I'm leaving to go overseas in a couple of days, but maybe I'll post a pic of the display when I get back, especially if I can pull off the new addition by then. tiberius magus |

26 packets? place a few on your arms and you have a thirty packet array for the trials :S Good Job!

So with other words, an arraw is the same as a Display? I thought a Array was like a long line of packets, its what I heard from HL members. I guess they were wrong.

I'f you own the CTG dvd you will see a tiny bit of the step with the Array. The packets in the array kinda goes in a line. But I'm not sure wethere a Array is the same as a Display.

I may not be using the terms in the formalised manner, but as I'm using it I would count 'array' and 'display' as identical.

Sell, I mean since Imperistand says that adding 4 packets to that 26 packet display would make it a 30 packet Aerial, it almost has to be just a display.
Becuse I don't think the guy has so long hands that he makes a long line of the cards like I heard...

You guys are bitching over technicalities. Who cares if its called a 30 packet array or display, the fact is this guy has come up with an original display that has multiple distinct packets. I doubt most of the people posting in this thread (myself included) have created their own 25 packet display.

The meaning of display is different between magicians and XCMers.
