I was hunting about on E-bay today, and I spotted a thing or tow that made me think of this board, especially when one thinks of the odd item or two to work into a tale, and the follow on menas to turn it into the truly odd.
consider the following item Item number: 3766892213 This is for a Trepan, a drill used to make a hole in the skull. One must surely ask Who used it? and on Whom? Why did they use it, and what happened to the person they used it on. Some odd experiment at a certain location of the skull intended to "free" a part of the brain? Perhaps giving the "patient" an unusual mental ability or "gift", and of course, what became of the "Doctor (?) who used it?? Anyway I just thought I would try to stir a few creative fluids in you all for the approaching season! Kay

Trephining was one of the earliest surgical procedures dating to prehistory. It was used, as it is today, to release pressure on the brain. It was usually effective.

Now I don’t remember the name of the guy, but there is a person who 20 years ago made a trepanation on himself to “free his mind”. After three attempts, using manual and electrical drills, he was successful and is still living.
If I recall correctly, his wife was about to do the same thing. They even toured giving lectures about the benefits of having a hole in your head. Maybe five years ago it was a trend on trepanation, as part of all the body art phenomena. You know, after you got your tattoos, your piercing and your artificial fangs and horns, you keep wanting more... |

His obsession in PI has him use an electric drill to relieve the pain. It could be seen as an attempt at suicide or lobotomy -- but...
