I have posted something similar under the 'boxes' section, but it does tend to have a small readership.
I'll include this request here as it pertains to cards. (Please, Mr Moderator, give it some time here ) I currently have a (cheap quality) plastic drawer box that will produce/disappear a deck of neatly packed BRIDGE size cards. This is to facilitate my Invisible Deck routine. What I really really want, really really want, is a very good quality, wooden ideally, drawer box that will achieve the same for a poker size deck. Anyone know of such an animal? |

Good to hear from you! Metal would be fine - made to measure? Count me in - I'll have the prototype Name your price. In the meantime - just found this: http://www.thetrickery.com/?nd=full&key=6037 Update:Dec 18 2004 This was the response from The Trickery: "In the past we've carried two versions of the Mini Drawer Box, both which were ideal for producing/vanishing a poker deck of cards in their case. Unfortunately, the typical problems in this industry are keeping the wood craftsman we have for a long period of time. We've been out of both versions for a while and have been in the process of shopping around for new wood guys which has proven to be the greates magic feat we've endeavored! It's not an easy task to find skilled wood workers who can do consistant quality and quantity. We're currently in negotiations with a newly formed company and hope to have several of our items brought back to market in the new year including these boxes. Please stay in touch with me and I will keep you informed of the progress." Does anyone out there know where I can actually get one from? A good one? Thanks |

A couple of weeks I put this up under "A chance to design your own box" but I got no response. Perhaps it is not the sort of thing you wanted. I am not sure if she would do just one box but I can ask if want me to. "A designer has shown me some business card cases that she makes and they look real cool. They have various artwork designs which are mental inlayed sort of and you get a choice from a large selection. The business card cases are about $25. The ones I saw were metal nickel plate I think but they could be wood etc. Anyway, I asked if she could make a single deck playing card case/box/clip whatever. I told her there might be guys here that would like them but I am not sure what would be the best basic shape box. So I am asking you guys what you think you would like a single deck box to look like. There are all kinds: ones with slip on lids, with hinges, top opening end opening, exposed no lid, etc etc I will give her your ideas if you have any and we can then see what she comes up with. I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks."
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Thanks for that Tommy. I would be very interested in a wooden or metal box but it HAS to be a Drawer Box (if you are familar with the Drawer Box principle.) I want to produce the box, show it empty, run through the Invisible Deck routine - place the 'imaginary deck' back into the empty box and then quickly produce the proper Invisible Deck from the box.
So, what I want/need is a 'quality' drawer box and NOT just a box that holds cards. I have enough of those. Thanks for taking the trouble to respond. Ask if it can be done - but it HAS to be a Drawer Box - and then, YES I'm interested. |

Why not use David Regal's Sudden Deck?

Dpe666 - you 'devil'
Why? Because I don't know it and I have a plethora of Invis Decks in a variety of designs and currently work with a bridge size deck that is 'produced' from a cheap, tacky, plasticky Magic Marvin Drawer Box. I love the effect but NEED to do it with a quality box in poker size. Awright? I appreciate the response! BTW Dpe666 - a sensible haircut if I may say so! |

Thats awesome ... I like it! Only ... if you don't mind my asking ... how do you plan to get the right side of the deck up? |

Sudden Deck is GREAT! It is a Bicycle card box that has been cut open so you can see the full inside and outside flat. You then CLEANLY fold up the box, and remove a REGULAR deck (or an Invisble deck as the case may be...ie you supply the deck). This is all done without any sleight of hand. The case may not be examined, but neither can a Drawer Box. I would suggest this as it looks to the audience that all you have is card case that you cut open. With the Drawer Box, you have a neat, toy, magic, trick box which may lead to the trick deck conclusion. With Sudden Deck everything appears normal.

The sudden deck box would solve the problem of making sure the deck's correct side was up too ...

Muddy, Thanks for the compliment. PM me for a FAULTLESS, no-risk, Drawer Bbox/InvisDeck routine.
But, hey, no thanks. I need a wooden drawer box - it ooooooozes quality! (OK I'll have a look at Sudden Deck - but my heart is set!) And I think I've found one following a helpful link from another thread: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......rum=8#13 Right - have had a look at the Sudden Deck and wasn't impressed. (Heck, it's nothing like the effect I'm looking for.) Nice, but I'm strictly turning this thread back towards The Drawer Box issue which just happened to incorporate an Invisible Deck. When I get one, I'll invite you all round for a preview performance! Dpe666 BUT - this is the point I am trying to make! Get rid of the cheapy plastic 'gimmicky box' and intro the 'ID' fom a quality wooden box (some can be examined!) showing the box as complete from the start and empty. Complete the routine as described. The wooden drawer will not lead itself to a cheap gimmicky trick box. (Remove the deck for later use and they can inspect it all they like!) |

Have you checked out the mini drawer box II available from Howard at TheTrickery? I bought one myself last week and boy its a beauty. It perfectly fits a poker sized deck or anything else about that size. It made fom red oak woods and has hand rubbed oil finish. the best part is, unlike other drawer boxes, this box can be shown empty, and full comepletely VERTICAL, which adds another subconscious notion that the box is empty great looking box, collectors quality and I'd reccommend it to anyone.

When they were in Spain a magician opened a card set with sudden deck but (and here is a bit of genius if I ever saw it) he was using the flattened out box as a bookmark! So, he has a small booklet with the 'bookmark' marking the page of a card trick he had been 'learning that day'. Then he removes the bookmark and does 'Sudden Deck' - BRILLIANT! If you understand 'Sudden Deck' you will see how a bit of alteration to a small booklet will allow this. Perhaps Regal mentions it in the literature, I don't know but I just thought it was a great idea so to whoever came up with it, NICE ONE! Dave.

@Roger,
I always wanted that too; either metal or wood - but no plastics! @Pete, since you are genius AND know Joe Porper well ..... please make a Porper Card Clip which can be shown empty and then the deck is pulled out right out of that card clip. That would be great ;-) Anyway count me as a possible buyer of a very fine pokersize drawer box!

Pete, I would like a mental drawer box. Count me in if you are getting numbers together before production.
I e-mailed mr Porper once about making a verticle card clip...makes more sense to me? I would sell those if they were made. In Magic Steve Dela |

Hello Roger
I have been manufacturing a wood drawer box that holds a poker sized deck since 1984. It has a hidden (non standard) trigger for engaging the gimmick. It even withstands some examination from the spectators. If you PM me I will e-mail you a picture of it. It looks good and is all hand made by myself here in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Take care and take cards Antony Gerard |

I suppose my expectations were a little high. I was imagining something along the quality of Joe Porper's or Colin Rose's craftsmanship. But I've always been a fussy old so and so. I'm just about to investigate Antony's suggestion above following a PM tip off from Robert M Cheers RK |
