Hi guys!
I remember watching Paul Chosse do this in a magic shop in Santa Rosa one time and it fried me. The performer ties up the corners of the hanky that two spectators are holding on to and there are five knotted corners. Anyone else seen anything like this? I know of and have Billy McComb's seven cornered hanky pamphlet but this version seemed to be geared more towards the close up arena. Thanks, Dorian Rhodell |

I saw Paul do that one myself, I have no idea if it's in print anywhere. I do remember it was way cool! But then, anything Chosse does is way cool.

It is a favorite of Billy McComb, I believe you can find it as well in "An Evening With Charlie Miller" from Magic, Inc.

The Paul Chosse routine is in one of the Ron Bauer Manuscripts originally put out by John Luka. They are now published by another company, I'm not sure who. They are probably available from H&R. I would recommend all of these manuscripts.
The series is called "The Ron Bauer Private Studies Series"

After further review, the Paul Chosse routine is not in the Ron Bauer series. I know I have it in print. Maybe it's in L.I.N.T. I can't check because my magic is packed for a move. Anyone know?

The Seven-Corner handkerchief is a featured effect on the Joe Stevens “Billy McComb” video. It is volume 30 of Stevens series and costs $30.00.
Billy presents the effect as a stand-up routine using two audience members. However, it may be done just as easily as a sit-down close-up routine. This is a good video for anyone interested in stand-up magic (even though many of the effects may be performed in a sit-down close-up show). Billy’s stand-up version of the “Gypsy Thread” is one of the best (and easiest to perform) that I have seen.

Hi All,
In the Ron Bauer Private Studies Series, old version of "Charlie Miller's Left Handed Hank", RB (Ron Bauer) mentions that if he hears enough interest for the Seven Corner Hank, he might write it up. RB taught it to me...this is where Chosse also learned it. Maybe everyone could help me out with "enough interes" to persuade him??? Right now, on the site, I'm gathering questions to make a FAQ page. Go to the FAQ page on the Ron Bauer Private Studies site and post that question. Thanks. http://www.thinklikeaconjurer.com/emailus.htm Dowdy http://www.thinklikeaconjurer.com |

Ron Bauer easily persuaded?!? Uhhhh.....No
I figure that if someone (RB) has something you want, you MIGHT eventually get it if you harass him long enough. They'll do it just to shut you up. So, since I put up the posting on the 17th, I've been building my list of Seven Cornered Hank seekers! Send in those requests!!! |

Hi,
The seven-corner handkerchief is described in Sleight of hand by Sachs and in Hoffman's modern magic. Yours faithfully Dan Kirsch |

Hey Megatherion...
Who told you that? |

Yo-Yo! I couldn't find it in Sach's or Hoffmann's. (it must be called something different). However, I did find it as titled; "The Handkerchief with Seven Corners" on pg. 183 in "Magicians Tricks" by Henry Hatton, 1910. The routine and patter are very similar to Billy's. By the way, if you wait for Ron Bauer to release it, you're in for a long wait. It's taken him yeeeaarrs just to re-release 9 of 24 from his Private Studies Series. Sorry Dowdy. It's the truth.

I use the Billy McComb routine for walkround and table hopping. I have also used The Five Cornered Hanky. It was published in Genii,Feb 1997. A very strong handling by Mark Haslam from England. Presented in Genii by Gordon Bean in his Locked Room column.
I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned it here, but I have only just found the cafe.If you can get the magazine this may be the routine Dorian saw in Santa Rosa |

Hey Hat Trick,
Thanks for the compliment. BTW, your numbers are wrong. We now have 13 out of the 24 available. You’re right, it does take a long time to do something right. The first editions were poorly produced and had little support. If it weren’t for me, and a few friends of mine, who insisted on RB (Ron Bauer) re-releasing them “the way they should be done,” we would never have this SURE-FIRE material! And, who do you know that, when a new edition of a book is released, gives you a replacement for FREE??? And pays for the shipping! I can’t think of anyone. That’s quite a deal if you ask me. So, Hat Trick (Look at the title of #22), yes, it has taken some time to re-release the Private Studies and this has obviously been eating at you for quite some time, so how would you like a free REVIEW copy of the next release? Our compliments… Thanks for your interest, Dowdy http://www.thinklikeaconjurer.com PS. We looked in Sach's and Hoffmann's and couldn’t find the seven-cornered hank either. That’s why I asked Megatherion where he got his information. Of course, I haven’t heard anything back from him, so I guess he just made it up. The Seven Cornered Handkerchief from “Magicians Tricks and How They Are Done” by Hatton and Plate, 1910 was the inspiration for RB to go ahead and write up a presentation. It will be included with the “Left Handed Hank,” in the Ron Bauer Private Studies Series. This is what he has taught a few acquaintances over the years, including Paul Chosse. |
