I want to replace the vinyl bag that came with my Silver Scepter Wand with a cloth one. Can anyone help me out with this.
What type of material should I use? Should the bag be the same size as the one supplied? Should it be longer, shorter, wider, more narrow? Should it be tapered like the one supplied? Also, should it have a split at the top? What about a snap? Whew. lots of questions and I'll bet I didn't even thing of some things. I will appreciate any help you are able to offer. Thanks. Regan

I was lucky enough to have bought some of the original Silver Sceptres from George Blake. They came with a cloth bag made of felt. With that bag the elastic NEVER broke in twenty years.
Mine came in a dark green heavy felt. The bag was the same size and shape as the later vinyl ones. Yes it should have a split and a snap if you want. The snap even if you don't use it as a regular snap is helpful in anchoring the bead during the rising. Most of the Silver Sceptres I've seen these days are made in India and the elastic is too tight. |

Thanks so much Quentin and Richard. I am going to the fabric shop this morning and try to pick something out. I hope they are open on Christmas Eve.
Do you think velvet would work well? Merry Christmas to both of you. Regan

HI,
Velvet would work fine, Mine is made of soft cotton you want the material soft enough to wilt as the wand pops out (when held sideways) as the kids find the bag wilting funny Phillip |

I think velvet is a excellent ideal. as well you might want to consider these colors. Dark Green Burgundy Black or Purple. and maybe a gold rope or white.

I re-made mine in soft, dark brown, felt -like material. a slot the same size as the vinyl bag. About the same length but with paralell sides.
Thats it really, but as Mr. Jones said above, it must wilt. Its funny but the origonal didn't bend much. |

Yes, it shoots off well just get the seamstress to re-inforce the stiching in the corner of the bag below the split as it takes quite a bit of strain, Phillip |

Thanks for all the great advice guys. I bought some red velvet, so I'll see how it turns out. I'm wondering about the hem at the top. Could this cause the wand to hang up in any way? I thought about sewing it until there is no hem, but this would require doubling the amount of material. Do you think this would make it too heavy? I am afraid it might make it difficult to fly very high if it is too heavy.

Thanks! Merry Christmas.....
