Just curious...
I would like to know 2 things from experienced restaurant workers. 1. On the average how much spin off work such as private parties or corporate work have you gotten directly from the contacts you meet at the restaurants? 2. What techniques do you employ to the customer aside from blowing their minds with great magic and handing out your business cards to stimulate private outside work? Thanks Jeff |

Lots of work from restaurant contacts... LOTS OF WORK.
Blowing their mind is ok, but above all, make sure they have a good time, and make sure they feel as if you are more than just a magician... a representative of the restaurant that honestly cares about making sure they have a great time while there. If possible, and when appropriate, engage them in conversation that may lead to finding out what they do, etc. Try to think of a way that what you do can mesh with what they do and plant the seed, without going hard sell on them. Getting this kind of thing across is often successful if done while they are praising your work. Look for the angle; their kids, types of shows common for the particular time of year, like Christmas parties... You'll get the hang of it.

As Mr. Baker mentioned....LOTS OF WORK.... It's hard to measure, but it is significant.
For outside work, more importantly than blowing their minds....be nice, be professional, demonstrate that you have a personality and are an interesting person to be around. Understand that you must be a solid entertainer. Your material is good, and your presentations are well rehearsed, but if they are going to invite you into their homes....or have you represent their company....they have to be impressed with you as a person. This, I feel, is more important than learning 47 different ways to do a double lift. Good luck |
