Hello-
I would like to perform some type of bowling ball production in my act, simply because I like the idea of being able to drop something that heavy on the stage and having the audience hear the loud boom as they wonder how I was able to produce something that large. What types of bowling ball productions are out there, and which are the best performance wise (without spending more than, say, $50-75). Thanks. |

Spend nothing. Or less then 5 bucks. http://www.weirdthings.com . look for the shock magic video/dvd. he produces a bowling ball from an "empty" paper bag. Great psychology behind the effect.

I would definitely go with Andrew Mayne's. To me it is a lot more practical than the briefcase as most audiences today know about the cases but a plain paper bag is less suspicious. Also, it's a lot more cost effecient, only about $5 just as Michael said.

Don't' throw away the brief case method, used properly it still kills the audience. As everything, its all in the set up leading into the effect.

What I like about Anrews version is the loud bang the ball makes when hitting the floor, as suppose to the briefcase version. don't get me wrong, they are both great. I just happen to like Andrews version more. Its dirt cheap and whats more inocent then a paper bag? Plus you don't just have to produce a bowling ball. You can produce a full cup of tea, if that's your cup of tea.

Sorry I should restate that. I like the briefcase better. I made the briefcase for $5. I think it is very effective. Mine just fits the bowling ball. So it gets a really good response. Like WHAT...so it is pretty cool.

I also use Andrew Mayne's a lot. As great as the more expensive versions are there is something very real and satisfynig both for you and the audience about the paper bag method.
Definately worth checking out... TM |

I've already own a few bowling ball briefcases, but I'll check out A.M.'s idea. I already have most of his other stuff, so I agree that he has some great idea's. Remember though, that there are certain applications when a brief case can do what a paper bag cannot. Especially if your doing a corporate gig.

Unless the corporate gig is for a grocery store chain, use one of their paper bags, hehe

Andrew's is ok. I guess it all depends on how the magician handles the prop. I've seen it look good and seen it look like he's holding something.
