Effect: Spot It
Creator: Matthew Leatherbarrow Publisher: JB Magic Type: Card/Packet Description: This is a great little packet effect. A card is selected and returned to the deck. From your pocket you remove 4 blank face cards. On the back of one of these cards you draw a black spot with a marker pen. The drawn spot jumps around from place to place on the back of the cards. Next lots of spots appear on one of the other blank cards. Finally you flip over the last blank card to reveal a 3 of clubs made up from SPOTS. A very neat and magical packet effect that is real easy to do yet looks great. Complete with specially printed bicycle gaffs and 2 great routines. Review: This is a great little packet effect, as the description reads and I couldn’t agree more. You have a card selected; you then remove four blank cards. On the back of one of these cards you draw a little spot. The spot jumps around in a highly magical (and satisfying) way. Then you end the effect with a very ‘random’ card and a kind of post-prediction card. Check the demo out on http://www.jbtv.co.uk and see for yourself. Also, the creator Matthew Leatherbarrow has a site I think, http://www.mattmagic.co.uk . I’m not normally a fan of packet effects, but because of how visual this is, and my love of moving ink effects, I had to buy spot it. I really cannot express how magical it is when the little spot seems to melt from one card to the other….plus spectator’s freak. Even better, the spot can be rubbed at all phases of the effect to prove it is real. The end, covering one of the blank cards with spots, then the final phase, making the last blank card covered in spots that reveal a selected card always kills. As I said, I don’t normally like packet effects…but I’ve always liked Presto Printo, Spot It is like a more streamlined version, with a more logical progression and a logical end point. The instructions are clear and photo illustrated. Finally, the second routine, though I don’t use it, is very good too. The only downside is that not all the cards can be examined, though the times ive performed it thus far, nobody has asked to see the unexaminable card, as they are too distracted by the final production cards. PROS Clever effect that doesn’t use a silly rubber flap Quick reset VERY visual Bang for buck, two great routines for £6.50 CONS Not all cards can be examined Rating: 7 out of 10 (tho more like 8 if you make a duplicate gaff and switch it in so all cards can be examined) Thanks for listening Dave |
