Degrees of Freedom for sure. It still surprises me each time I perform it. It can be found in his book Dear Mr. Fantasy. Lots ways to adapt this to other themes (Bannon uses a poker theme and turns up a Royal Flush).

I second the already mentioned "Collusion" and "Degrees of Freedom". "Sort of Psychic" from his "Move Zero" series is another great one.

"Collusion" gets tremendous reactions from people. There's something poetically eerie as you slow the face up-deal at the end of the effect and their target card shows up at the last card counted.

I included several of Bannon's tricks in my article 10 of the Best Self-Working Card Tricks in the World and the follow-up 10 More of the Best Self-Working Card Tricks in the World.
My picks as his best self-workers were: ● Play It Straight Triumph (John Bannon) ● Dead Reckoning (John Bannon) ● 51 Fat Chances (John Bannon) ● AK-47 (John Bannon) ● Power of Poker (John Bannon) ● Collusion (John Bannon) |

Love the principle and the 'folding' procedure used in DOF from Mr Fantasy

I like 'A View To A Skill', something I always do when someone gives me a deck and says 'can you show me a trick?'... just make sure you have all 52 cards.

I can't remember what it's called but 2 spectators each think of a number between 1-20, before hand you have placed a prediction card to one side.
After using the Gemini principle for the 2 cards, you then add the two numbers together to get to a third card. All four cards then match. Brilliant trick. |

I like Sort of Psychic a lot, but I rarely do it because I like to save it as an out. If you modify it to start with the whole deck and narrow down to the packet you need, then if you a lose chosen card, say, you can transition into SoP. "Hmmm... I wasn't able to find your card. But maybe you can..."

Best Bannon self worker?
Easy! My pick is Power of Poker! This impresses all that I show it to. I add a joker to the packet, Charlier false shuffle, then by cutting to the Joker and getting rid of that card, the packet is set for this terrific self worker. The look of amazement that follows is a blast! |

Do the same a second time, and the packet is restored. Then you don't need to use the joker, and you can keep the packet face down. Or you could use an Andrus slop shuffle instead.

Thanks Jon!
I will give that Charlier variation a try! I think we are in agreement that Bannons Power of Poker is the real deal! Ha! |

Does Beyond Fabulous from DMF count? It’s a complete killer every time I do it and I love the patter.
AK-47 is one that seems to come up a lot here…I must be missing something as it always seems a bit flat when I do it and the whole procedure seems contrived. May be the way I do it!! Another vote for Prophet Motive III |

Play It Straight Triumph. This is so powerful, it's easy to forget it's self-working!
Also I have recently been enjoying Trait Secrets (from Dear Mr Fantasy). This is based on Potent Presage by Jack Carpenter. I use JC's handling rather than JB's. (JC's splits the deck into 3 groups; JB's is identical to the Gemini trick). I also prefer to end with 2 x 4 of a kind, rather than 2 x pairs + 1 x 4 of a kind. |
