Depending on the kind, thickness, and quality of rope you might need different scissors. Regular magicians rope (that thin cotton stuff) a good sharp of generic scissors will do.
If you have a sample of rope handy head on out to a fabric store (like Jo Ann's) and test drive there various offerings. However for anything of any heft you should consider high leverage shears like these: https://www.baroniantrading.com/product-......e-shears My scissors of choice.

If the rope you want to use forces you to knaw/chew on the rope, I think it was Whit Haydn that recommended something along the line of tin snips.
These are just a little larger (girth and length) than scissors. Take some of your rope with you to a hardware store or a Home Depot, and try them out. The shears recommended by Harry, look good. Not quite as hefty as tin snips. See if you can try them out too. Another suggestion, I think from someone on the Café: recycled poultry shears from a poultry processing plant ~$5.5 brand name is Gold Seal John

I second the BTC shears. They look good and cut through any rope effortlessly! I also have a leather scissor holder by Jerry O'Connell that straps to your belt and is perfect for holding these scissors. I got mine from PropDog in the UK.

After a lecture from Pop, I went to local hardware store and got a small tin snip. The ends are blunted and don't poke a hole in pocket like regular scissors. They cut nice and clean, have a nice heft to them, and look cool. I think I paid $8 for mine.

The Tin snips cut well but always looked a little odd to me on stage. For MANY years I have always used Electrician's Shears which are small, fit in the pocket well and cut rope beautifully. I will admit that I core all the rope I use on stage for C&R but these have been my personal faves for many years and I've always been surprised that I haven't seen anyone else use them.

I've had a pair of scissors like this in my house for years. The ball end keeps the tip from catching as they are made to be chicken boning scissors or more commonly, poultry shears. Just grabbed my decade-old pair from the desk and cut some rope. They still cut fine. For like $20, these look like regular scissors, cut well and protect your pockets.

I've too often had a problem with my scissors growing dull and making it hard for my participants to cut after several shows, so I took a page from Pop Haydn also and acquired a set of scissor-style, small tin snips and couldn't be happier.
