I recall seeing something that was either written up in a book/magazine or marketed item in which a playing card was formed in the shape of a cube. Does that ring a bell with anyone?

I saw somewhere that used 6 cards to make a cube, don't recall now where.
Or are you saying just one card was used? Dave |

Dave, I found what I was looking for. The cube is made from just one card.
It was an issue of Gene Taylor’s periodical Antinomy where I it. A great periodical I might add. The effect is called “Like a Rolling Stone”, by Dr. Giorgio Tarchini. It’s on page 13 of the 2005 Annual. There was a credit in the write-up to Robert Neale. In his book “Life, Death and Other Card Tricks”. He has a few of items that use the card cube. Both sources teach how to make it. Neale’s book mentions the idea came from British magician Bob Ostin.

Is this something you can fold in front of the audience - or do you need to create the cube prior?

In the applications I’ve seen, the cube is made prior. There’s tape involved. In some cases it’s being used to act as a die, which would then reveal a card when opened up.

I just finished reading a book called "Resigned to Miracles" by Peter Gröning.
It's a great book that revolves around a sneaky method to get genuine signatures on playing cards, that aren't know to the spectator. In the book, there's an effect called Gifted. The basic idea involves magically producing a ring size box from your card case after removing the deck. The ring box is for use with a signed card to impossible location effect. It occurred to me while reading this that it would be perfect for a playing card cube, under the right circumstances. A square, the size of the card cube could be cut in the foam that's in the box, to hold it in place. The cubes can be made showing either the back or front of the card. If the front of the card was shown, A diamond card could be used, functioning like a diamond ring in the box. Either way would be an interesting use of the cube.

There was a marketed item as well called Card Cube by Perseus Arkomanis and Alakazam Magic. With Card Cube there is no tape or adhesive.

That’s good if he has a way of doing it without any kind of adhesive.
I just hope he gives credit to the people who first came up with methods for making the cube out of playing cards. Bob Ostin being one of them.

Perseus Arkomanis did not credit anyone. At least according to Peter Duffie, who reviewed Card Cube in the Finn Jon - July 2014 issue of Magic Magazine.

Quote: I looked up that review and I see Peter Duffie mentions both Bob Ostin and Bon Neale. It also doesn’t look like that product is available any longer. On Aug 20, 2020, mantel wrote:

Done Ohh-Ahh Bird, Frog Prince, Pearl Poodle, and decided Card Cube would be interesting to learn/practice in front of telly, but couldnae find it until I went to the creator, Perseus Arkomanis, who sent me on to Alakazam Magic UK. Had it downloaded in seconds at $10.60. Perseus and Alakazam all great. Video easy to follow, got a pile of cubes to prove it.

For those who believe, no explanation is necessary; for those who do not believe, no explanation will suffice.

Quote: One thing to note, Arkomanis was not the first to create a card cube, only his version of it, and it's unfortunate that he provided no crediting on his video to those that came before him.On Sep 30, 2020, Beowulf wrote:
