I might be the only one on here whom disagrees that this is useful. Do yourself a favor and buy any of the Harry Lorayne material on the subject. I think his methods will make you far more self reliant than tying you to something that hasn’t much meaning. I felt like the book was lacking in regards to a full deck sequence. Yes they have come out with the additional compendium for the rest, but it should have been that way in the first place.

Different folks learn differently. The peg system taught in HL's "Develop a Sumer Mem..." classic just did not stick with me. I could picture the bizarre images, but when I used them I often had trouble recalling which part of the image was the relevant part.
Example: Picture a giraffe driving a car. That's an image that's hard to forget, but is it indicating the word 'car' or letter 'g', or a 'long neck', or 'wheels', or .... ? ? Tamariz's method in the Memonica book also did not work for me. I learned that stack by brute force over several weeks. The "flash card study method" mentioned by a previous poster was an important part of my studies. Also phone apps that quizzed the stack were helpful. |

Hi all,
being new to Mnemonica and heaving read this thread, I was quite unsure about the book "Memory Arts" (special Mnemonica version). For myself, I can say that I really love the fact that there are only 26 images. in my eyes, having two cards on each image is not a drawback but a feature as the two cards always build the story together. I worked on the book only for one, max. two hours yesterday and was able to remember the stack within 24 hours after buying the book. I am still far from quickly naming e.g. 5 cards that follow a specific card, but the images and the order itself seem to be baked into my head. Cheers, Florian |

Just received a copy of this book. Wow, what a beautiful production! I'm already impressed and I haven't even read it yet!

Not much activity in this thread, but as learning THE stack is a New Year's Resolution, I thought I'd chime in...
Mem Arts has given me a remarkable recall in just three sessions, with 95% accuracy. But it's by no means automatic. I'm adding a more 'rote' practice on top of the new imagery in my head to lock it in and more importantly, speed it up. This multi-pronged attack 'appears' to be working and seems loosely in line with Tamariz's writings, minus the audio work. The Mem Arts system also appears to be a solid fall-back should the brain go blank all of a sudden. Already all 52 locations are in my head...albeit (at this early stage) with a few seconds of digging depending on the image. I can deliver the exact position of any card with a few seconds of mental gear churn. I highly recommend the book if you're starting cold and are willing to use it as a foundation. |

I am using the 52 location system from Expansion Pack 5 so there is no maths to slow me down. And I've considerably modified the 13 character cards; I prefer the start of words to match the card number rather than a rhyme e.g. fiver for five instead of hive. And I prefer characters I can relate to rather than some of the more archaic ones, although some are very good already like jack-in-the-box for a jack. And then I've created my own place cards in Photoshop, highlighting the embedded number and not only placing the characters into the picture in the correct quadrant, but personalising them. Finally, for good measure I've added an image of the playing card from Wikimedia Commons onto the edge of the picture, next to the characters. Just creating this unique pdf document has embedded most of them in my brain.

Can someone please help me.
I have only briefly looked through the memory arts book by the trustmans. But it looks like there are only pics for 26 locations for mnemonica. Looking briefly it doesn't make sense and people said it was for all 52 card.

Of all the memory books I've read, I think Dominic O'Brien "Quantum Memory" was the best. If memory serves (ah!) it teaches increasingly advanced methods for remembering stuff.
As far as remembering a stack is concerned, I found that Tamariz's method of drawing on cards worked well (I even used a different a colour for reds and blacks, and angle/roundness for spades/diamonds vs hearts/clubs, adding more thinks to help with recall). P! |
