Hello everybody, does anyone know the Fantasilk effect by Imaying? Is it similar to the bare handed versions of Bojan Barisic or Alexander de Cova? Can it only be used as an opener?

It says in the description "anytime".
It looks similar as far as a silk is produced by reaching out. This video is more of a demonstration, than an ad to sell a product. Not much to go on, to obtain any information. This seems to be from China, and I don't think the Café has many members from China to assist us. |

Thank you for your comment. You are probably right. I just thought this is such a big forum with members of many different parts of the world chances are good to find someone. Besides the creator seems to be a Mexican. Funnily enough I got some reactions on Facebook. A German colleague bought it in Blackpool. The world seems to be quite small at the Blackpool convention.

Tim, Looks like you gave up your search too soon.
I found the effect for sale on line at this website for only $69.95. I ordered it and will post again when it arrives. Thanks for posting about this production. I use to do the original version that only produced one silk. |

Received the silks and apparatus today. Here's my review
Received the Fanta-Silk item today. You get 3 elastic wide armbands, for the different placement on your right and left arms. Included is 3 very thin silks from China, claims to be 18". Unfortunately the instruction video is only available to watch on Vimeo, with no way to download so you have it available whenever you wish to view it. The magician Imaying is from Mexico, and must not speak English, as there is no voice over or any way to tell what he is doing, except on video. He has a helper come out and tie something, but difficult to see what is happening. as there are not closeup shots. Even when Imaying, ties some other other knots, there is no closeup view of what he is actually knotting. You can see he is knotting something, but not positive where it is being knotted onto. I was hoping this would be built on the top of the original methods by the original inventor and Vito Lupo's additional work. If it was, it goes in another direction. Which brings us to pre-show preparation. You will have to of course spend the time learning so you can get prepared easily by knowing exactly where and how the cords and elastic had to be set on your arms and not experience any tangling. I would have to say, it is basically a one or two silk production. His idea for the 1st silk if you wish to produce 3 silks is a very old method, and is not angle proof. I am sure you can find a better single silk production in Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic, utilizing a steal. As for "anytime" comment, I do not see how this could be performed "anytime" during an act. You are extremely limited how far the your arms can move away from your body. Of course this is also true for the original other methods previously mentioned. With this setup, it all depends what effect you choose to perform beforehand. I have only watched the entire video, and not tried any of the methods, I just received it a few hours ago. His idea for producing two silks, is a good idea, as the originals only produced one silk. Just tried the left upper arm elastic band, and it does fit me, as it is adjustable, but the right forearm band is too tight, and would have to be remade. |

In Firefox (perhaps other browsers) there are 'Add Ons' (under the 'Tools' drop-down box) that you can add to your browser that allow you do download videos from Youtube, Vimeo and other sites. I will sometimes do this as an 'insurance policy' when I've got an 'online only' tutorial and I'm not 100% confident the creator's YT or Vimeo channel will be there indefinitely.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Tim, Fantasilk is not similar to my Double silk production and Ultimate Fan production. Last year in Blackpool that Mexican dealer had a booth next to mine and they were very curios to find out what method I used. As Bill mentioned Fantasilk is very similar to original Carlos Corda Sensational Silk Production. De Cova, Lupo, Abbott, Pollock and many others are all based on Corda`s idea to lift or pull back armband a little so that silk can be produced. That has many drawbacks. First, silk is prepared and placed under the armband and it is in contact with your skin until production. If you start to sweat silk will stick to your arm. If you place the armband on your sleeve you will pull the sleeve back before armband starts to release the silk. Production itself depends on the strength of the elastic in the armband and the rubber band that has to pull the silk out of the armband. Also, since you need a shorter length of the cord than your arm is you will be limited in your movement BEFORE and AFTER silk production. I created a gimmick that produce 2 silks, 2 card fans, 2 stacks of bills or almost anything else that fits into the gimmick. There is only one position of the hand that triggers the gimmick (above the head, fully stretched)and at that moment nothing holds the silk or cards. Silks or cards are never in contact with your skin. After production you have complete freedom of movement like there is no gimmick at all. Hope it helps.

Just thought I would give the video another look, well Vimeo, no longer lets you go to the videos only page. They push signing up, and uploading videos'.
That was short lived customer service. Can't find any website for them. |
