Hi I'm new hear not to magic as I'm approaching 40.i turned from close up to mentalism. I was very impressed with derren brown drawing dupe on messiah.so can anybody point me in the right direction to replicate said effect.as I don't think he used a clipboard ala fabrice delaure.it may have been ian rowlands no dupe drawing method but he was way too acurate please help.just a hint or a point in the right direction <book?> would do with thanks.

Almsot all of derrens work cannot be performed in the real world. Though someone please correct me if I'm wrong?

Ofcourse I'm not refering to the effects that use cold reading, suggestion, muscle rading etc. But I doubt he would be able to a lot of his stuff in a live show? Maybe I'm completely off track please let me know. P.S. Im also aware of his duel reality effects, wich is not what I'm refering to.

To a large degree you are right. If Derren could replicate his TV show on stage, he would, but he doesn't because he can't. Instead he relies on tried and tested mentalism techniques and a certain clipboard.

I personally find Derren's TV programmes really boring. But I loved his live show. It is far superior to the tv format which is really tired and very repetitive. Plus its pretty sterile. Derren is a great performer and that comes over in his live show. I find I have to watch a video tape of his TV shows and it takes three sittings to see the whole show. I can't sit through a whole one without getting wrestless. In fact I rarely tape them these days. But if he comes back up this way with his new live show I will go and see it and probably have a great night out.

Have to agree Shrink DB is best seen live, although I do enjoy the TV shows you cannot beat the stage show, ive just booked my tickets for his new show when he comes to Liverpool.

I slightly disagree slightly about Derren being unable to completly replicate his stuff on stage. I think he probably would be able to do this, though he would fail a lot, but not nessercerily all the time it would be possible. Derrren has opted for a more standered show format for the reason that the majority of it is fail safe,m having said that aspects of his show do utilise certain audience management and suggestion skills performed in his television work.
One day I will write a book

Yes I agree with the comments about being much better live.yes he does very little of the t.v. stuff live, and I think I have got the d.d. sussed .i think partly mr ian rowlands no imp d.d. and a little sound reading maybe? she was wearing a wireless mike.well apart from bugging the room that's all ive come up with.erm this real time clipboard is it any good for drawing dupe .it has to be done real time and I carnt afford a delaure? is it the same as the reverse ms principle as in al manns ceromentics?

I am worried that we are discussing methods in a public forum, perhaps this discussion should be moved to inner thoughts or abandoned all together?

Magic in mind, I understand your situation and I see you have not enough posts to enter the nanquet room yet however I am just aware that there are many lurkers just seeking methods and secrets. Our art is a one of secrets and I for one am a member of a camp to prevent the secrets entering the public forum.
In terms of clip boards I have always used Kopy Kat from Earle and Becker and have found it to be very reliable indeed. I have had little experience with others on the market althoug I have played around with most of the ones which are available. I hope this helps Best, Kennedy

When you have little funds, forget about DVD's and props in my opinion you want books, especially Corinda and Annemann.
As time goes on you get better at making things.I speant a good deal of christmas with a craft knife in my hand arrangeing effect props I had made myself. The rest use money from special occasions like birthdays to buy. H.W

I don't think what could be typed here by any adventurous individual would give the 'trick' away.
I have seen DB do this before but in a much smaller way. I was quite taken aback by the length that he expanded this 'trick'

Good advice H.W.
Both books are inexpensive and will give you more methods than you could possibly need, I suggest you take this route as opposed to buying a single prop considering your funds..
