I just ordered it from Mr Bauer's site. I have several of his booklets. I don't necessarily perform everything I've ordered, but EVERYTHING he puts out is completely worth owning. This should be a quote on the back of his manuscripts:
"Ron Bauer's booklets have impossibly helped to prevent me from appearing to be the rank amateur that I actually am". Like others above, I do NOT wish to rush out and try to perform the routine as Don Alan. That would be impossible. But there are lots of lessons to be learned by working on his routine, especially if the writing has been done by Mr Bauer. Part of what I enjoyed about the Racherbaumer book was the way he broke down the # of words/sentences uttered, # of laughs obtained, etc. The guy was pure entertainment and magic. As always, that video clip of Mr Alan is one of the greatest things I've ever seen.

I remember seeing that video clip when I was just a young boy getting into magic! It inspired me to buy my very first Chop Cup and it's the same one I use today. Boy, that clip really brought back some old memories. Thank you so much for finding it.

I just watched the Don Alan Stevens Tape again and thought about this post.
While being interviewed, Don Alan ask's magicians to not copy his work. He asks us all to create our own magic that would make a booking agent say "I got a guy who[X]". When we copy eachother, we water down the hiring pool for each of us as preformers because of a lack of individuality. That individuality is what sell's us to our customers. Don was sensitative regarding his material because he was copied so much through the years. You can see his emotion when he was being interviewd on the tape regarding his feelings and material. Remember this when building your own routine, and develope your own individual trademarks. Knowing that someone may find this thread in a future Café search, I thought it was a good idea to bring light on Don Alan's lesson and request. If you don't have the Stevens tape, get it- there is an abundance of information on it worth much more than the $30 investment. MM

I agree with this completely. The interesting thing about Don Alan is that there was a fellow in Chicago that used to tell booking agents that he did Don's act and worked cheaper. That really stuck in Don's craw.
But there was a lot of material that Don did that was, how should I put this, derivative, I suppose would be the best term. And Racherbaumer completely missed the boat on at least one routine.

I went to lunch with Don one time in Schaumburg (Chicago suburb) and the close up guy, Terry Vecki, came over to do some magic for us and did DON'S STUFF... Don went ballistic when Terry produced a Big Nut... Don's signature bit!

I think that's the guy Ron Bauer spoke to me about over the phone.
